Your sponsorship will be acknowledged on our website What is the CPF all about? The Community Police Forum (CPF) is a legally recognised body that operates under an Act of Parliament. The CPF, as an established partnership between the police and the community they serve, seeks to promote the effective protection of the members of the community and a better quality life for all. Community Policing is a policy and strategy aimed at achieving more effective crime control and an improved police service through a proactive reliance on community resources that seeks to change the crime causing conditions. It allows the police and the community to work closely together to eliminate the fear of crime, physical and social disorder and neighbourhood decay. Page 1

2 Recent Success Car Thieves Arrested in Impala Park On Monday morning, the 16th of June around 4:00am, a call came in over the patroller s radios with information of a suspicious Red Toyota Tazz driving around in the Impala Park area and pulling in and out of resident s driveways. Our CPF Patrollers and CMS went looking for this vehicle and managed to stop them. Based on the contents that was discovered in the possession of the perpetrators, it was clear that their motives was that of criminal intent. Two men were arrested on scene by SAPS. Shortly before the arrest, the third suspect was dropped off by the occupants of the vehicle. Despite all attempts to find the third suspect, he could not be found. Suspected House Breakers Arrested in Impala Park In the early hours on Friday Morning the 8th of August, three men were spotted jumping over residents walls in Artoiste Street. Our CPF Patrollers was called assistance. Two of the three men were apprehended by the CPF Patrollers in Atar Street but unfortunately the other one managed to get away. The two men were detained until SAPS arrived and arrested them. Attempted Theft at Checkers Elridge Shopping Centre On the 12th of August around 17:30, four suspects filled their trollies with various vitamin supplements. The covered the goods with plastic bags and left the Checkers without paying for the goods. This was noticed and the suspects attempted to flee the scene. One of the suspects was wearing a security vest. A call for assistance was made to our CPF emergency number, The CPF Patrollers were sent to the centre and in true CPF Patroller style, around 15 patrollers arrived within two minutes. They apprehend the suspects before they could manage to get away with the stolen merchandise. Two of the four suspects were apprehended by our CPF Patrollers and arrested by SAPS upon their arrival. Unfortunately, two suspects one male and one female got away. The estimated value of the vitamins supplements which was retrieved on the scene is between R12000 and R Stabbing On the 12th of August at around 21:30, one of our CPF Patroller vehicles was spotted and frantically flagged down by a petrol attendant. He asked for assistance with a man who went to the petrol station for assistance because he had just been stabbed in the head by two men in the field on the corner of Elizabeth and Atlas road. A CPF Patroller was left with the victim whilst waiting for ER24 to arrive. A few more CPF Patrollers left the scene to find the suspects. They were found hiding in the concrete slabs in the same field where the incident happened. The CPF Patrollers apprehended the suspects and waited for SAPS to arrive. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance and the suspects were taken to the same hospital by SAPS for identification by the victim. The victim positively identified the suspects whom were then arrested by SAPS. The victim is recovering. 3 Messages from Community Members Assisted by the CPF Smash and Grab Incident A special word of thanks to the CPF Deputy Head Patroller Francios Squire who returned my stolen cellphone to me after he and a group of CPF Patrollers went to the scene of my smash and grab incident and found my cellphone where it was dropped by the thief. I appreciate the fact that they took the time to return to the scene and even more so for the effort made to fine me and have my phone returned. Louis Botes A Thank You to Witkoppie Ridge s Head of Crime Prevention Johan Burton Dear Johan Thank you to you and your team who responded so quickly to my uninvited visitor in Findel Road this morning I am extremely grateful Marian Bryant House Break In When Anna Maritz, a member of our community, arrived home in Fiat Street, she noticed that her gate was open and immediately knew that something was not right. The CPF was contacted for assistance. They entered her premises, it was noticed that the ceiling trap door was open, her home had been broken into via the roof. CPF checked her house for any unwanted visitors. The patrollers searched through the neighbourhood but unfortunately no suspects were found. Anna reported to me that she felt safe and taken care of by the CPF who monitored her home and street that evening. She found the service to be excellent. Fundraising Initiatives CPF House Boards Our CPF House Board Fundraising Initiative is an ongoing project. Thank you to everyone who has supported the CPF by the purchase of a CPF House Board. It is a heart warming experience to drive down our suburb streets noticing that in some streets, nearly every house has a CPF House Board. Many of our local businesses also have the same board. 4 Boerewors and Prego Sales at the Northpoint Shopping Centre Our patrollers have been selling Prego steak rolls and boerewors rolls every Saturday morning for the past seven weeks. The proceeds of this fundraising initiative are used by the CPF Patrollers to support them with the fuel costs used to patrol our suburbs. The CPF Patrollers thank you for your on going support. This initiative also proved to be a very useful communication tool as our community members take the time to discuss with us the local crime issues and concerns whilst purchasing their rolls. We invite you to visit us at our CPF stand and to come and meet the CPF Members that keep our street safe. Raffle This fundraising initiative was held with the single objective of purchasing a bullet proof vest for each one of our CPF Patrollers. 90% of all criminal use some kind of weapon and they don t hesitate to use their weapons whilst conducting their criminal acts. The most critical item and at the same time, the most costly item needed by our CPF Patrollers to protect themselves at all times in their line of duty is a bullet proof vest. We thank our community for you most valuable support in this project. With the proceeds of your support, we were able to purchase 20 bullet proof vests. We still need a lot more of these vests as we have in total more than 80 CPF Patrollers. We will have more fundraising projects to support worthy cause and we know that we will once again be able to count on your support. 5 Safety Tips Know your Neighbours It s of vital importance that you get to know your neighbours. Having a good relationship with them could save your life. Exchange telephone numbers, know their vehicles and keep an eye on each other s houses. Let your neighbours know if you saw anything suspicious and inform your neighbours should you go away for the weekend or on holiday. Communication is one of the key elements to fighting crime in our area. Never Approach Criminals Sometimes we tend to act before we think... If you see something suspicious or witness a crime, please report it to the local CPF emergency number ( ) or contact the SAPS Sector Vehicle. Taking matters in your own hands and risking your life for material possessions is just not worth it. Almost 100% of criminals are armed and nervous whilst committing a crime and will not hesitate to use their weapons to avoid being arrested and to defend themselves.
