2 Standard deviation is used to calculate the average distance of each piece of data from the mean. It measures the consistency or spread of a data set. The lower the standard deviation, the closer together each piece of data is (more consistent). Factorise 4x 2 - xy The median of a data set is the middle number (ensure that they are ordered from lowest to highest first). If there are two middle numbers, add them together and divide by 2. Today we will be revising over median, quartiles and inter-quartile range. The lower quartile is the median of the lower half. The upper quartile is the median of the upper half. Example: The range of a data set = highest number - lowest number. The inter-quartile range = upper quartile - lower quartile The semi-interquartile range = upper quartile - lower quartile 2 (b) The interquartile range and the semi- interquartile range
