2 With a consistent focus on the rural untapped market the Central Govt. has always made an effort to map the market & provide the much needed support to the rural population whether in terms of agriculture or finance. With the onset of a new Government, ther are more prospects & challenges ahead, therefore there is a comprehensive need to further develop financial literacy in the lower income group to supplement better prospects of Financial Inclusion in India. FACTS As per the 2011 census, only 14.5 crore out of the total 24.5 crore households in the country use banking services Only 35% of Indian adults have access to a formal bank account As per RBI estimates, by March 2013, 182 million basic savings accounts were opened The new Government in August 2014 will launch the ambitious new financial inclusion plan called as Sampoorn Vittiyea Samaveshan (SVS) The main objective of the plan will be to open 20 crore new bank accounts within a span of one year--two bank accounts for each uncovered household. Under SVS One account has to be opened for a lady member of the household.
