3 Dear all welcome to our annual renewable event 2014 It is time for our annual renewables event, and we hope to see all of you again this year. With retrospective changes and suggested retrospective changes to the regimes in several countries, material reductions in feed-in tariffs, the economic crisis and various other uncertainties, the past year has been a challenging year for many of the European markets. Investors have resorted the perceived safe heavens that were already crowded with investors and which offer low yields. Other investors have broadened their horizon and have instead invested in either new markets or new technologies. We have especially seen a sharply increased windenergy activity in the Americas, Africa and Asia Pacific over the past 12 to18 months. Markets that have offered yields that in most cases have more than fully compensated for the foreign exchange and other risks attached to such markets. On the technology side waste-to-energy seems to be offering an interesting risk/return. On the supplier side we have seen several of the Asian wind turbine suppliers slow down on their on-shore activities, whereas others have geared up on off-shore. With the slowdown in the traditional European PV markets, the current over-supply and the on-going trade dispute between the Chinese and EU, many of the Chinese suppliers as well as European suppliers have withdrawn from the market. All in all it seems fair to conclude that it is challenging times, but also times which offer many new opportunities for the investors who dare invest outside the traditional markets and technologies. 5 Meet Keynote speaker Jérôme Guillet, Managing Director, Green Giraffe Energy Bankers Dr Guillet is a Managing Director of Green Giraffe Energy Bankers, a financial advisory firm created in early 2010 and focused on renewable energy. He has more than 15 years experience in the energy project finance industry, with a strong focus on offshore wind since Under his leadership, Green Giraffe Energy Bankers helped close large non-recourse financings for the C-Power, Meerwind, Northwind and Walney projects and, was involved, most recently, in the equity and debt transaction for the 600 MW Gemini project. He graduated from the Ecole Poly-technique in Paris and holds a PhD in economics from the EHESS in Paris. Green Giraffe Energy Bankers is a specialist advisory boutique focused on the renewable energy sector and in particular offshore wind launched in 2010 by experienced finance specialists. What Green Giraffe Energy Bankers do: Non-recourse debt structuring, project equity advisory, buy-side and sell side advisory, project contracting support, market intelligence, modelling. The teams: 20 professionals with offices in Paris (France), Utrecht (Netherlands), London (UK) and, since January 2013, Hamburg (Germany).
