10 Program Leaders Michael Hafeman is a director of the Toronto Centre and chairs its insurance and pensions advisory board. He is an actuary and independent international consultant on financial sector regulation and supervision, focusing on insurance and pensions. He is a member of Canada s Auditing and Assurance Standards Oversight Council. Michael previously worked in the Canadian and U.S. financial sectors, including serving as assistant superintendent at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada, managing partner of the Toronto pension practice of a major consulting firm, and president of a life insurance company. In 2014, he completed nine years of service as a member of the Public Interest Oversight Board, which oversees the public interest activities of the International Federation of Accountants. Michael holds a B.A. in mathematics and economics from the University of Minnesota Duluth and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He was recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in Michael Kofi Andoh is the Head of Supervision at the National Insurance Commission (NIC) of Ghana, a position he has held since In 2003 he joined the NIC from KPMG to set up the inspections unit of the NIC. His duties include licensing, planning and directing on-site inspections, assessing and monitoring solvency and reinsurance supervision. He has also been on several committees appointed by the Commissioner of Insurance to help find solutions to various problems in the insurance industry in Ghana. Program Director Salvador Chang is a Toronto Centre Program Director. Formerly, a strategy and finance manager and accomplished professor in Economics with a wealth of experience in the analysis of global financial markets, banking and international economics. He has held senior positions in the areas of strategy, economic analysis and finance at Royal & Sun Alliance Canada (RSA), Mercantil Servicios Financieros (a leading financial services provider in Venezuela), and Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA). He has also served as a research professor in economics at Instituto de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales (IIES), a non-profit economic and social studies think tank of Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), where he published extensive research on external debt, financial crisis and economic stabilization plans in Latin America. He holds an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern School of Business. 9
