Focus is on understanding the situation and the development of a precise definition of the problem/challenge identified.

It will explore: Risks related to climate change The effects of climate-related risks on the insurance and pensions sectors What insurance and pension entities should be doing to deal with climate-related insurance, investment, and operational risks Actions that can be taken by insurance and pensions supervisors and regulators. 10:15 Coffee Break 10:30 SESSION 5 (Cont d): Climate Change Michael Hafeman, Chair, Toronto Centre Insurance and Pensions Advisory Board 12:30 Lunch 13:30 SESSION 6: Alternative Investments and Technology Risks Per Plougmand Bærtelsen, Director in the Life-Assurance Division in the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority. This session will focus on the implications of developments in alternative investments and technology for insurance and pensions supervisors. It will explore: The hunt for yield and the development in alternative investments with focus on the associated risks Actions that can be taken by insurance and pensions supervisors and regulators in relation to alternative investments Key technological developments, such as fintech, robotic technology, big data, the internet of things and new platforms Risks arising from these changes, such as strategic risk and cybercrime Actions that can be taken by insurance and pensions supervisors and regulators in relation to technology risks 15:00 Coffee Break

Michael Grist, Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Finance and Markets Practice, World Bank Group and William Price, Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Finance & Markets, World Bank Group The operating environment for the insurance and pensions sectors can be significantly affected by changes in government policies. Policy changes can also affect the regulatory, supervisory and legal frameworks. This session will consider: How government policy changes can affect the financial sector and the framework for regulation and supervision What insurance and pension entities should be doing to assess and mitigate their exposure to the risks that might be created by policy changes Actions that can be taken by supervisors to influence policy choices, while avoiding political involvement. 16:30 Action Planning Participants will continue to work on their action plans with the assistance of program leaders. In this session, they should be working on setting their goal and outlining their plans.
