ISO13485:2003 Quality Management System (Medical Devices) The following policies apply to H&S issues and are available to all staff: General Policy Statement Policy for the control of contractors Policy for the control of Asbestos Policy for exhibitions Policy for wearing of jewellery and long hair Policy for COSHH Company car policy Plus other policies specific to operations Heath & Safety Arrangements Competent Persons providing Health and Safety Advice to Renishaw Communication with the Workforce First Aid Cover Mr Paul Grendall. Responsible for all aspects of H&S within the Renishaw Group Safety Representatives and committees on all UK sites Total of 44 trained first aiders across the UK sites. Each site has a fully stocked first aid room and refresher training is carried out annually. Accident Reporting All sites are equipped with de-fibrillation units and oxygen. All accidents are recorded using HSE Accident book (BI 510) Accident statistics are recorded on a regular basis and information presented in graph form. Where applicable accidents are reported in line with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR). Table of accident statistics for the last 3 years
3 Year Fatal Major Over 3day Dangerous Occurrences Ill Health Near miss Risk Assessments COSHH Assessments Health Surveillance Fire arrangements Portable Electrical Equipment Work Equipment H&S Training, Information and Instruction The company has not been prosecuted or served with enforcement or prohibition notices by any enforcement organisation with regard to an offence under Health and Safety or Environmental Law. Renishaw has 139 staff trained in risk assessment techniques. Each departmental manager is responsible for ensuring that risk assessments are carried out and outstanding actions are corrected. All assessments are reviewed on a regular basis. Renishaw has 17 staff trained to carry out COSHH assessments. New substances are controlled by project engineers and assessments carried out before substances are accepted into production. Assessments are reviewed on a regular basis A central database of all Material safety data sheets is maintained. Health surveillance is carried out as required by law. Areas currently covered are: Lung function, hearing, hand arm vibration and eyesight. There is also a company Doctor who is available for consultation by management and staff. Full fire risk assessments have been carried out. Alarms are tested on a monthly basis and all extinguishers are checked on an annual basis. 400 plus employees have been trained as extinguisher wardens. All portable electrical equipment is subject to P.A.T. on a frequency relative to its use. All work equipment supplied is done so under PUWER and LOLER. Equipment is also inspected at regular intervals as required in the above legislation. Every employee is issued with a copy of the company s safety policy prior to starting with the company. A safety induction is carried out on the day people start with the company and they are also required to attend a Health and Safety Awareness course within 3 months of their starting date. Ongoing training is offered on a need basis thereafter. No relevant course is refused funding. Information is communicated via the company intranet, and the H&S committee. Records All records for general Health and Safety issues are kept by
4 the Personnel Department. Monitoring and Audits Asbestos Sub-contractors Environment Responsible Person RoHS WEEE REACH All localised issues are recorded by departmental managers. Audits are carried out by members of the safety committee and concentrate on the management of H&S within the company. A full asbestos survey has been carried out and the findings recorded in our asbestos management documentation. Sub-contractors are used periodically and they are subject to our own vetting procedures. Only contractors who have passed our vetting procedures are deemed competent to work on our sites Mr Mark Acres (product) Mr Phil Joynson (environment) Renishaw s products do not fall under the requirements of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Regulations Even so the company has committed to reducing / eliminating the amount and number of hazardous substances used within its products to at least the legal requirement. Renishaw is a member of DHL International Ltd as our compliance scheme provider under the WEEE regulations. All of our products which fall under the WEEE regulations carry the Wheeled Bin symbol. Renishaw is not a chemical producer but uses chemicals in our manufacturing process. Renishaw are aware of our obligations under the REACH regulation and have taken all the necessary steps to prevent disruption to our supply chain.
