1 The Native Women s Association of Canada (NWAC) announces CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP to NWAC for the province of New Brunswick, (December 19, 2012) The Native Women s Association of Canada (NWAC) is a nationally representative political organization comprised of thirteen Provincial Territorial Member Associations (PTMA s). NWAC s goal is to enhance, promote and foster the social, economic, cultural, and political well being of Aboriginal women within First Nations, Métis and Canadian societies. The founding of the Native Women's Association of Canada in 1974 was closely tied to Aboriginal women s struggle to overcome discriminations inherent in the Indian Act. NWAC works collaboratively with other Aboriginal women s organizations to empower Aboriginal women by facilitating their participation in legislative and policy reforms that promote equal opportunity. Membership Application: Application for membership is open to any provincial/territorial Aboriginal women s organization that fulfills the membership criteria as described in Article 1 and sections 3.01, 4.01 and 4.02 of NWAC s By-law. 3 SECTION 2: NWAC s Mission Statement: To help empower women by being involved in developing and changing legislation which affects them, and by involving them in the development and delivery of programs promoting equal opportunity for Aboriginal women. Please tick to confirm that the following documents are included in your application: A certified copy of a resolution duly passed at the most recent annual assembly or meeting of members authorizing the organization to apply for membership as an affiliate of the NWAC; A certified copy of the organization s Letters Patent or Letters of Incorporation with certified copies of any amendments to the date of application together with an undertaking that there will not be any changes made prior to the application for recognition as an affiliate member of NWAC, officially know n as a provincial/territorial member association (PTMA); A certified copy of the current bylaws together with an undertaking that there will be no changes to such prior to the application for recognition as a PTMA being dealt with by NWAC; A certified copy of a list, with addresses and phone numbers of its current Board of Directors; A certified copy of the Minutes of its most recent annual assembly or annual meeting; A certified copy of its most recent annual audited Financial Statement; The organization s undertaking to comply with the provisions of the bylaws of NWAC (copy enclosed); Documentary evidence that is reasonably sufficient to establish that the organization represents the interests of Aboriginal women within its province or territory as required by the bylaws of NWAC; The organization s undertaking to fairly and equally represent within NWAC the interest of all Aboriginal women within the organization s mandate. 4 C a l l A p p l i c a t i o n N W A C M e m b e r s h i p - N e w B r u n s w i c k
