4 Tuesday 17 October 2017 Venue: Wappensaal, Vienna City Hall, 1010 Vienna Cities long-term investment for a stronger European economy The financial crisis and its legacy have demonstrated that long term planning and international and cross-sectoral cooperation are prerequisite to sustainable and inclusive urban growth in Europe. In the context of shrinking public budgets, further collaboration between cities and European financial institutions in terms of investments in urban infrastructure and services is needed. Gains associated with long term investment in terms of creating opportunities for businesses, jobs and improving citizen s quality of life guide current policy making across borders. However, delivering on this shared objective is a complex process creating institutional and financial challenges.
