4 Online Background Screening NABPS Accredited In October of 2014, The National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) Background Screening Credentialing Council (BSCC) awarded Backgrounds Online with the prestigious title of BSCC Accredited after the Consumer Reporting Agency (CRA) successfully substantiated compliance with the Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP). Backgrounds Online is amongst the ranks of a small percentage of all employment screening firms to have achieved the honor of accreditation from the BSCC. This seal of approval hails from the NAPBS, an organization dedicated to promoting ethical business practices, compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) laws, and brings together a diverse group of entities within the background screening industry. Their seal promotes the development of best practices while providing education and fostering awareness of issues relating to consumer protection and privacy rights. The NAPBS created the BSAAP to stand as a seal of approval and to recognize CRA s dedicated to maintaining high professional standards, accountability, a commitment to excellence, and continued institutional improvement. Before earning the NAPBS Accreditation, Backgrounds Online was required to pass a rigorous audit, conducted by an unbiased independent auditing firm, of its policies and procedures to ensure it met or exceeded the BSAAP standards in the following critical areas: Consumer Protection Legal Compliance Client Education Product Standards Verification Standards General Business Practices About NAPBS Founded in 2003 as a not-for-profit trade association, the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) represents the interests of more than 700 member companies around the world that offer tenant, employment and background screening. NAPBS provides relevant programs and training aimed at empowering members to better serve clients and maintain standards of excellence in the background screening industry, and presents a unified voice in the development of national, state and local regulations. 6 Identity Reports SSN Trace $3.00 Your applicant s SSN will be run through a database provided by a Credit Reporting Agency, but does not correspond directly with their credit history. The scope of data provided is typically 3-10 years, and occasionally returns no results for younger applicants. Results will include name, date of birth, and address history. Turnaround Time: 1 Day Criminal Reports County Criminal Court Search $12.00 Physically researched at the source of potential criminal information, the county courthouse. Records are confirmed via name, date of birth, and SSN when required. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, corresponding with state law. Results may include charge, charge level, disposition, disposition date, probation information and methods of identification. Please Note: Occasionally, some courts will charge an additional fee to release criminal records. Backgrounds Online will pass on fees when applicable. Turnaround Time: 1-3 Days Statewide Criminal Search See pg 9 A basic search of databases maintained by individual states based on information provided by encompassing county records. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, corresponding with state law. Although this search spans a larger area, it may not be as accurate as county level searches. Results may include charge, charge level, disposition, disposition date, probation information and more. Turnaround Time: Varies by location. Call for details. Federal Criminal Court Search $14.00 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through district-specific databases of crimes against the federal government. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, corresponding with federal law. This is not a nationwide search, but rather a search for crimes which were disposed of in a federal court. Results may include, but are not limited to: charge, charge level, disposition date, disposition, probation information and more. Turnaround Time: 1-2 Days Pg 5 of 10
7 Criminal Reports (continued) Nationwide Sex Offender Database $5.00 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through local and national sex offender databases. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, corresponding with the subject s registration status. Results may include, but are not limited to: charge, charge level, disposition date, disposition, registration requirements and more. Turnaround Time: 1-2 Days National Wants and Warrants $5.00 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name, date of birth and SSN through a series of city, county and state law enforcement databases to determine if they are wanted for criminal activity or have any active warrants. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, dependent on the date the warrant was issued. Results may include, but are not limited to: charge, cause for warrant, warrant issue date and current status. Turnaround Time: 1-2 Days Nationwide Criminal Database $5.00 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through a database of over 400 million criminal records throughout all 50 states. Due to the nature of databases in general and FCRA requirements, all potential criminal offenses that may belong to your applicant are automatically followed up with a county level search. The scope of reportable data is typically 7-10 years, corresponding with state law. It s not uncommon to receive only partial court results when utilizing a database. Therefore, Backgrounds Online recommends using this search strictly as a supplement to state or county level searches. Please Note: Compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that any results found must be verified utilizing a County Criminal Court Search in order to ensure the records in the database are up to date and accurate. Backgrounds Online will add a County Criminal Court Search to your report if results are found. For more information about this search, please contact client support. Turnaround Time: 1-2 Days USA Patriot Act $10.00 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through a series of government security-related databases. Names and information are added to these databases at the discretion if the reporting agencies. Results may include, but are not limited to: reporting agency, cause of inclusion and identifying attributes. Turnaround Time: 1-2 Days Pg 6 of 10

Employment records are typically maintained for a minimum of 7 years, but can vary depending on employer s company policy. Although our Specialists request a wealth of information, results may include position, dates of employment and rehire eligibility at a minimum. Please note: Some employers outsource verification services to third parties, which charge an additional fee for their services. Turnaround Time: 1-3 Days Education Verification $8.00 Our dedicated team of Verification Specialists contact and confirm academic achievements with the source, or via third party when applicable. Academic achievements are typically maintained indefinitely by a school or university s enrollment department. Education verification results may include enrollment dates, degree obtained and areas of study. Turnaround Time: 1-3 Days Reference Verification $8.00 Based on customer feedback, our Verification Specialists have created a questionnaire designed to provide a detailed analysis of your applicant s workrelated abilities. Although we offer the ability to fully customize your reference interviews, information obtained relies completely on the reference and their availability. 9 Additional Reports Motor Vehicle Record See pg 9 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and driver s license number through the issuing state s Department of Motor Vehicles. Results may include, but are not limited to license status, class, year of issuance/ expiration, violations, suspensions and more. Turnaround Time: Varies by location. Call for details. Credit Report $11.00 Backgrounds Online utilizes your applicant s name, date of birth and SSN to obtain Pre-Employment Evaluation Credit Reports (PEER) through TransUnion. Due to the sensitive information contained in a PEER report, TransUnion requires a one-time onsite inspection of your business and Backgrounds Online requires your applicant s consent form be sent to us directly before information is returned to you. Additionally, a variety of states have limited the use of PEER reports during the hiring process. Results may include, but are not limited to your applicant s 7 year credit history, debt load, payment history, tax liens, judgments, bankruptcies, addresses and past/current employers. Turnaround Time: 1-3 hrs Drug Screening 5-panel $ panel $45.00 Backgrounds Online has partnered with Quest Diagnostics to provide drug screening from labs throughout the nation. Results are typically returned within 72 hours from the time your applicant visits a lab, and include details pertaining to any discovered chemical included in 5 or 10 panel drug tests. Turnaround Time: 1-3 days Workers Compensation See pg 9 Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through the Department of Labor or Workers Compensation Board, depending on state regulations. This report is only available in certain states, and can only be requested once a conditional job offer has been made, per the American with Disabilities Act. Civil court records are typically filed solely by name possibly leading to multiple results, which may or may not apply to your applicant. Reportable cases are restricted to those taking place in upper courts only. Due to the filing methods used by civil courts, results are generally returned within 3 to 5 business days. Results may include, but are not limited to plaintiff and defendant names, case description, judgment and judgment date. Turnaround Time: 1-3 hrs International Reports International Criminal Report Call for Pricing Backgrounds Online filters your applicant s name and date of birth through country maintained criminal repositories.
