12 Lending to Latino Entrepreneurs According to the Urban Institute, SBA loans are 3-5 times more likely to go to minority or women-owned businesses than conventional small business loans made by banks In 2016 SBA made a total of 6,381 loans to Latino entrepreneurs 7(a) flagship lending program approved 5,517 loans totaling over $1.3 billion 7.8 % increase in the number of loans from 2015 and a 168% increase since (a) Community Advantage Pilot Loan Program approved 133 loans to totaling $11,373, % of all loans and a 18% increase from 2015 Micro Loan Program approved 731 loans totaling $9,379, % of all loans and 15.23% of dollars lent Yet the Kaufmann Foundation reports that businesses loan approval rates for minority firms are less than half the rate of White firms 12 Building Success in Underserved Markets
