2 TABLE OF CONTENTS RETROACTIVITY... 1 WHAT REPORTS ARE AFFECTED BY RETROACTIVITY?... 2

3 Retroactivity Retroactivity is the process where KNS-AR creates a reversing entry on previously calculated charges due to a change made in the system that could cause those charges to be re-calculated differently. Then when charges are calculated, those reversed charges are re-calculated based on the new information. Retroactive changes are always based on an effective date, and any charges prior to that effective date are not affected. Retroactivity does not affect cash receipts or manual adjustment entries. Any changes made in KNS-AR that require an effective date can cause retro if the effective date is prior to the latest calculated charges. Some of the common changes are: Price Changes Reimbursement Rate Changes Fee Schedule Amount Changes Reimbursement Table Changes Changes Assessments Some changes will only affect one resident, while others will affect a large number of residents. A change to a resident s reimbursement table will only cause retro on that resident, while a change to the plan-process of the Medicaid plan will cause retro to every resident who has charges to the Medicaid plan from the effective date of the retro change. When a change is made to KNS-AR that will cause retro, there is always a dialog box that pops up with The changes you have made may require retroactive processing. Do you still want to continue?. You can click NO and cancel any change before the system starts the retroactive processing. Due to the fact that NetSolutions doesn t know how far back the retroactive change should be made, it must rely on the effective date entered by the user. While retro is a great feature of the system, unnecessary retro processing will cause the system to slow down needlessly when calculating charges for the month due to all the prior month charges it must re-calculate. The effective date should always be double checked prior to proceeding with retroactive changes. 1

4 What reports are affected by Retroactivity? General Ledger-wise, all retroactive changes made in KNS-AR are reversed and re-processed in the current AR period. The guideline below explains how the retroactivity affects reports in KNS-AR. Reports by charge.period date. Retroactivity affects these reports. (e.g. If you were to make a retro change to a prior period, re-bill, then run the report for that period, the report would reflect the retro Processed Date Reports by charge.processed date. Retroactivity only affects the current month report. (e.g. If you were to make a retro change to a prior period and re-bill, only the current month report would show the Running the report for a prior period recreates the original report. Reports are based on information, not charges. Retroactivity affects these reports. (e.g. If you were to make a retro change to a prior period, re-bill, then run the report for that period, the report would reflect the retro Reports Days Monthly Resident Bed Analysis Accounts Reports Adjustment Posting Ancillary Orders Cash Receipts Posting Order Returns Receipts Listing Report or 2
