3.1 School Report - Principal/Vice-Principal/Teacher Representative Reports Glen Payne: Jillian Jiggs, Elmer, KPREAA, 25 th Anniversary etc. Rugby, volleyball, gr. 8 Royal Winter Fair Skills Canada coming Renewed math strategy Playground, Glen has had conversation with board, new lines painted on pavement Person came in to advise on what yard will look like Monies from last year s dance-a-thon had gone to company for posts but it will be coming back Sun shelter has been moved; new shelter built, rather than moving the old one Gate cut in fence, for soccer pitches by high school Company took old sun shelter Fix one diamond and remove other Soccer field will be revitalized Peterborough Petes are interested in coming to Strath; has been done in past years. Tickets for Pete s game are a bit cheaper Do we want to burden the school community? Council to look at Pete s schedule Fundraising plan is necessary A lot of forms come home for various activities Would like to get down to a one-page form Kathie Sawyer: Kathie, pizza lunch days, pizza hut is not guaranteed peanut free Dominos is peanut free teacher parent brought it up Faiza to look into Subway; perhaps they could give letter of compliance. New business for next meeting
3.2 Treasurer s Report (including Budget Committee Report) Budget committee met on Wednesday October 18 Agreed upon new budget $1200 allocated for pediculosis checks, but will probably be closer to $1400 due to increase enrollment; see budget above. A lot of things off budget, now covered by school Roberts rules re protocol for meetings was discussed; no consensus at this point. Mandy to talk to Trish about Pita line item The $269 was HST rebate for Pita; this will be put into general school council funds. Motion to increase pediculosis budget to $1400 Motion Mandy, Second Lisa, Carried Motion to approve modified budget of $11650 i.e. including extra $200 Motion Mandy, Second Heather, Carried 4.0 Business Arising 4.1 Lice Check Options Elizabeth Groves Pediculosis proposal discretion, double check Lice squad was quite a bit more expensive Jan 17, 18 and May 22, 23 are current proposed dates Can put in new criteria i.e. double check Motion to accept lice check proposal with proviso that there are double checks and we can choose the dates, if they are available Motion Donna, Second Amy, Carried Donna willing to take the lead 4.2 Special Events Committee
4.2.1 Fresh From the Farm Nov 27 delivery date, need volunteers Between 12pm and 2pm and again around 5pm to hand packages out How long need space for food need MPR would be picked up that day Parents need to be told right away Need an announcement 2 blocks of time use syner-voice Try to get delivery earlier Need to sort out when we get it Some classes didn t get the form Lund? Tina - every class was double checked 4.3 Book Fair Tuesday December 5 and Wednesday December 6 Tuesday school hours and from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday school hours only Angie would like to organize bake sale student nutrition program Angie will organize Tina needs volunteers Lisa possibility Tuesday 10:00am to 1:00pm one person 11:30am to 2:30pm another person on the Tuesday Book Fair stuff will come in on the 30 th Put on sign and call out put out bake sale item Make check-out close to exit door in library for debit machine Telus better If want published in newsletter, provide text to Adrianna she tries to get it out near first of month Put Subway dates on website too Goes into calendar and website 5.0 New Business 5.1 Special Events Committee 5.1.1 Dance-a-thon Do we need to do it? Pretty healthy in terms in budget No need for major fundraising Tina - Pizza Hut is more of a service than fundraiser; most people agreed Amy - kids like dance-a-thon Could be a charity oriented type thing
Mandy - still have dance-a-thon maybe cover DJ no or minimal charge Potential to use money to reduce charge for trips No requests for major expenses Kathie - dance-a-thon set a precedent has been a great success, lots of things to put money towards Charlotte - some money to school some to charity Jesica - for this year it should be a go Parents understand that there are costs trips, smart boards Amy - possibly ask teachers what they need e.g. jerseys, Glen taking care of Kathie to take back to teachers Glen taking care of new sports jerseys; however, it would be positive for council to contribute to.
