4 Benefits to you The number of people reaching retirement age is expected to increase significantly over the coming years. The post war baby boom generation are now drawing their pensions and improved healthcare means people are living for far longer. Retirement income solutions have evolved rapidly to meet the changing needs of this market and are offering much greater flexibility and innovation. However, this means there is greater complexity for those who want to secure the best pension income a key decision which is often irreversible. As an Employer or Trustee, you have the regulatory responsibility to provide your members with sufficient information and guidance so they are fully aware of their retirement options. The Open Market Option is under used, with most people taking the rate offered by their current pension provider and many are unaware of Impaired and Enhanced Annuities, which can offer a greater income for those with certain health and/or lifestyle considerations. This could mean your scheme members may defer their retirement because they do not understand the benefits they are entitled to. This can make employee succession planning for businesses very difficult to achieve. 6 Early engagement Many people only begin to consider their retirement options around six months before their actual retirement date and with 42%* not having heard of the Open Market Option, it is no surprise that many make poor decisions. We believe that communication and education on retirement options should begin at least five years prior to their actual retirement date, covering both the lifestyle and emotional aspects of this major event. Our online iaspire pre-retirement portal provides comprehensive information on what being retired actually means. The profile builder within the portal enables people to plan and design their retirement and assess exactly how much income they need and the best way to achieve it. Using online functionality we provide appropriate information to enable members to make informed choices about their annuity type and shape. Our five stage service and communication programme has been specifically designed to complement the regulatory agenda associated with the Association of British Insurers, The Pensions Regulator and the Financial Conduct Authority. Our high quality retirement pack is issued, containing information on retirement options and choices as well as indicative illustrations. Our telephone specialist will contact the member to answer any questions and ensure the member understands their options, so that they can make fully informed decisions. The member returns their completed forms. A live guaranteed quote is generated and issued with a confirmation letter that summarises the selections made. This is followed by full implementation of options selected. 6
