November 2018 If you have any news or announcements you d like featured in the newsletter, please them to erinm@heyl.net. Happenings Jeff Morehead (VP of Operations) and Permes Veerperumal (VP of Accounting & Finance) spent 4 days in Birmingham, AL at the 2018 McLeod User Conference. We are excited to be kicking off 2019 with a much improved software system! While new software will involve changes for those employees in the office, we are also excited for the upgrades our drivers will experience. We will finally have a Heyl App drivers can access via ios or Android device! Receive dispatch and preplan information Communicate (send/receive messages) with dispatch when you are away from the truck Access payroll information (US Drivers Only) Submit trip paperwork If you are new to scanning trip paperwork, please stop by the Safety Department in one of our terminals and we can get you started! Permes, Tom McLeod and Jeff Jeff, David Custred (VP of Operations at McLeod) and Permes

I know that does not just happen, and it takes a whole team effort. While service levels have always been important, they have become even more important over the last year to our customers. This is primarily due to various fines that our receivers are implementing against them for late deliveries or orders that are not complete. While we cannot do anything about complete orders, we obviously have a lot to do with the on-time performance. Our customers are putting a tremendous amount of focus on deliveries to certain receivers (Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger and C&S to name a few). These loads are being tracked extremely close, and updates are requested from our Customer Service team sometimes multiple times a day. If we do not perform well on one of these important lanes, I can assure you we will lose the business. What I am asking is that we also put an extra focus on on -time delivery for all loads and especially to those delivering to any of these key receivers. Our performance levels have a huge impact on the volume and rate levels of business we can secure. Again, we have an edge over much of our competition because of our service levels today, but I want to make sure we keep that edge. Your continued support in doing so is greatly appreciated! Thank you Bruce Koele, Vice President of Sales 1 Million Miles Daniel Santa Torno Pictured with Aaron Peterson & Perry Nelson If you participate in our Supplemental Accident or Critical Illness coverages, each family member that is covered can receive $50 for getting a health screening test, such as: blood tests, chest x-rays, stress tests, annual physicals, etc. To submit a claim call Be prepared to provide some specifics, including SSN, birthdate, date of test, etc. Once the claim is submitted a check is mailed shortly after. The benefit is $50 per person per year with each of these policies.
Heyl hosted Pinellas Technical College s Advanced-Level Truck Driving students and instructor on October 11 at our Zephyrhills terminal. The students received information about the company, and were able to tour our facility and get inside one of our trucks. Congratulations to the 9 students that will soon be graduating and starting their driving career! Reminder that investment options for the plan have been enhanced with the addition of the following: 1. Target Date funds With this group of options you choose the year (beginning with 2020 and increasing by five years) that you would like to retire and monies you put into the fund will be invested in a manner that looks to maximize your earnings by changing your stocks vs. bond ratios as the end year draws nearer. 2. Roth 401K This option was added to allow for post-tax dollars to be put into your plan versus what, up until now, were always pre-tax investment dollars. By doing so you will have a combination of taxable versus non-taxable monies available to you once you begin making retirement withdrawals from your plan. For more information or to make either of these changes to your plan, call Merrill Lynch at Mackenzie and Josh Schaffert welcomed Thea Josephine on October 8th. She was 7 lbs 1 oz and 20 inches long. Big sister, Charlotte, loves her new sidekick! Mackenzie is the controller for Heyl Truck Lines and is based out of our Akron, IA terminal. Congrats Schaffert Family!
On September 6th, the IMTA held their annual awards gala. Last month we announced that Heyl was the winner of the 2018 Iowa Fleet Safety Contest. We would also like to recognize the following Heyl employees that were nominated and recognized for their contributions not only to Heyl, but to the trucking industry: Edward Knutson 2018 Master Driver Nominee Keith Kaufman 2018 Outstanding Professional Driver Nominee Tony Tripp 2018 Dispatcher of the Year Nominee Norman Doug Burgess 2018 Fleet Maintenance Professional Nominee Jeff Morehead and Mackenzie Schaffert were also recognized for completion of the 2018 IMTA Leadership Class. Ronnie S., Doug Burgess and Joe W. Keith Kaufman The following drivers joined the Heyl team during the month of October. We would like to wish you all a warm welcome! Robert Day AB James Brown AB Matiwos Arefaine AB Carlos Rodriguez TX Sham Ghazii AB Daorong Peng AB Aaron Frank NC Terry Day IA Rocky McKerricher SK Jimmy Collins GA Paul Cameron AB Timothy Day IA Li Xu AB Joseph Cornwell FL Eugene Ghent FL Franklin Smith TX Omar Reyes Sauz TX Roberto Marrero FL Alfredo Boswell TX Nabil Benhashim FL Raymond Burke KS Frederick Sainsbury AB Wallace Moon TX
We are excited for our new driver area at the Akron terminal! Construction is complete and we have a new break room, laundry room, and restroom/shower room. Drivers have access to this area 24 hours a day via the side door in the Safety building (must have gate key). Ground broke on a new project at the Zephyrhills terminal in October. It will feature an 880 square foot addition as well as remodel of the current space. Your patience is appreciated as this project is expected to take about 6 months to complete. Stay tuned to our Facebook pages for updates on the progress. During the 3rd Quarter office employees p a r t i c i p a t ed i n T-Shirt Fridays to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Each Friday, employees had the option of wearing a t-shirt to work if he/she made a minimum $2 donation. We were excited to raise over $500 between our terminals. Heyl has matched another $500 so our donation totaled over $1000! We will continue to offer this during the 4th Quarter, with all funds going towards each terminal s local Toys for Tots.
