Eye on AMO/LAS Events New LAS/MFOA Investment Basics Seminars will present a broad range of municipal investment options, an economic update, and strategies related to investment and cash management. Sessions are scheduled in October in London, Brampton, and Belleville. Register soon to avoid disappointment.. MEPCO - The Municipal Employers Pension Centre of Ontario The OMERS September 2010 Newsletter, posted on the OMERS and MEPCO websites, outlines 2011 temporary contribution rate increases and examples of bi-weekly pay impacts. 8 Item #3 - September 16, 2010 LAMBTON FARM SAFETY ASSOCIATION MONDAY, JUNE 21 st 2010 at the OPP Office in Petrolia 1. Attendance: Jim Kearns, Katherine McNeil, Tom Lunn, Allan McNeil, Earle Woolaver, Ken Campbell, Jake Feenstra, Gary DeBoer, Roy Elliott, Ron Jones, Tracey Cross, Linda MacLean, Kathy O'Hara Wilson. 2. Jim called the meeting to order and welcomed everybody. Moved by Ken, seconded by Jake that the minutes of the last meeting be approved. Carried. 3. Business arising out of the minutes: Ron said the new name listed in item 6 is wrong. The new name of the 3 safety groups is: Workplace Safety & Prevention Services. 4. Correspondence: a. We got $ from BMO Employee Charitable Foundation. b. Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, re Ontario Medal For Good Citizenship. c. Material from Guelph, re Ministry of Labour, workers in the workplace. e. Information for farm safety volunteers. d. Canadian Agricultural Safety Association grants for f. Information on new 2011 Progressive Agriculture Safety days. GENERAL ACCOUNT 5. 9 Item #3 - September 16, Tracey Cross report. There was a provincial meeting last Wednesday. There were 3 regrets. The meeting was to get to know the other board members. Plans are to have 3 meetings per year. Set future goals. There are many changes in the other groups also. Farm safety logo will stay the same. There are 2 year volunteer positions that have to be applied for. The head office will be in Mississauga, with regional offices in London, Ottawa, Guelph. There will be a review of the payment for those driving to meetings. (kilometers) There will be speaker notes released on current agriculture topics by . This could be given to the local media. Farm safety will be the voice for the agriculture sector. County safety groups have to adopt to change and be positive. Waterloo safety group had an appreciation night. It was very successful. Tracey Cross is the chair person of the provincial volunteer advisory group. The new provincial board is made up of the 3 groups. Farm Safety Association, (FSA) Industrial Accident Prevention Association, (IAPA) and Ontario Service Safety Alliance. (OSSA) The new name is Workplace Safety & Prevention Services. 7. Ron Jones report. There are many changes in Ron's work place. The London area is the largest, with a staff of 17 different safety workers. There are many changes going on in this area, re staff positions. Also there are changes at the Guelph farm safety office. Some positions are not needed. There are staff involved in silo gas, manure gas and noise. The agricultural advisory committee is to represent the views of the agricultural employer. All payments will come from the head office in Mississauga. Employers can save money by not having accidents. 8. SMV Sign. Lambton county has ordered more SMV signs. No report Video Program. Kathy sent a letter to 10 school principals. The 3 boards were contacted. She had 4 replies and 12 requests. Some of the topics; drug safety, fire safety, personal safety, water safety, farm safety. Videos seem to be out and the new system is DVDs. Can our videos be transfered to DVDs?? Some teachers could use this more next year. We need some new material. Some of our material could be put in the school library. Should we be working with Kent, because the school boards cover the 2 counties?? There will be an evaluation sheet for teachers to fill out. 10. Lambton Farm Safety Annual Day Camp. Thursday July 8 at the Forest Fair grounds. Plans are to have 8 stations; ATV safety, Internet safety, food handling, basic first aid, tractor safety, water safety, emergency preparedness, lawnmower safety. We have 8 different hats. Participants will be divided into 8 different hat groups. There should be a male and female adult with each group. We have 2 banners to put up. We try to take a group picture under the banners. Progressive Farmer have a code of conduct for volunteers. This is similar to our police check. I will have some copies at our meeting. Cargill will supply the food. Lambton Milk Committee will supply drinks, etc. We need to have someone to take pictures. We need volunteers to help. Registration has 2 volunteers so far. Plans are to have a PTO demonstration and a guest speaker. Plans are to do some radio ads. 11. TRAILER REPORT. Trailer bookings for May 8 safety event at Clearwater arena, Ken, Lavern, Jim, and Earle helped. June 12, Ken and Lloyd were at Inwood Fire Department open house. Good event. Essex day camp on July 6, Our day camp in Forest on July 8, Kent day camp in Ridgetown on July 21, Plans are to put trailer in local fair parades, Petrolia, Wyoming, Forest, Alvinston, and Brigden. 10 Item #3 - September 16, Police Checks. 14 volunteers have had this done. 13. Harold Gray. Moved by Tracey seconded by Linda that we buy 200 first aid kits for our day camp. Carried. We need to put this money into education and/or our day camp. We are still looking for ideas. 14. New Business. a. We can use items for the goody bags for all participants at our day camp. b. Lambton Farm Safety was invited to Strathroy on June 15 for the regional Agri-Food Innovation Awards. Lambton winners were: Buurma Farms Ltd, Cedarview Farms, Enniskillen Pepper Company Ltd, Forest Glen Herb Farm, Konzelmann Farms Inc., Tony Noorloos, and Lambton 4-H Farm Safety Club. c. We plan to do the Ag in the Classroom at Brigden Fair on October 8. (look- a- likes) 15. Next meeting. --- MONDAY, September 20, 2010 at 8:00 pm. at the Petrolia OPP office. 16.
