They want to go to Cairo (Egypt) for their honeymoon. 1.1 Thabo and Thandi are excited about visiting many of the tourist attractions. Table 1 below shows a list of places of interest that they wish to visit along with the entrance fees per person, given in Egyptian pounds (EGP). (2) (b) Determine the total saving that Thabo would make if he and Thandi visited the Antiquities Museum Mummies Hall and the Railway Museum, using the honeymoon special. (4) Of the attractions that they wish to visit, which is the cheapest to enter? (2) Thabo insists that they have to go inside the Mummies Room, which is located inside the Cairo Museum. Determine the total entrance fee for each of them to visit the Mummies Room if they make use of the honeymoon special. (3) 1.2 "Revenues from ancient Egyptian monuments such as the pyramids have fallen by 95% since Egypt's 2011 revolution. Revenues fell from 3 billion Egyptian pounds in 2010 to just 125 million in 2014", Mamdouh el-damty told al-mehwar, a private Egyptian television channel. Determine the difference in revenue between 2010 and (3)

They plan to be in Egypt for 9 days (a) Determine the estimated amount of money (in rand) they will need altogether for their stay. (3) (b) Using the currency rates in Table 2 below, convert this amount to the nearest Egyptian pound. An interest rate of 4,1% p.a., compounded annually, was earned. Determine the values of a, b and c. There are three taxi options that they could choose from: Taxi Egypt : Charges a 50 EGP call-out fee and 10 EGP per kilometre Purple Cabs: Charges no call-out fee but 15 EGP per kilometre Maximum Taxis: Charges a set fee of 70 EGP for the first 5 kilometres and an additional 16 EGP per kilometre thereafter Complete the table in the Answer Booklet. (5) A line graph for Taxi Egypt has already been drawn on the grid provided in your Answer Booklet. Now draw line graphs for Purple Cabs and Maximum Taxis on the same grid provided in the Answer Booklet. Unfortunately, three months after moving in, she notices dampness on two of the walls in one of the bedrooms. The dimensions of this bedroom are 6 m 4 m with the walls having a height of 3 m. (See sketch below). Paree is advised to have these walls replastered. * Dampness: the presence of unwanted moisture in the structure of the building. (6) 2.2 If the plaster needs to be 2 cm thick on the walls, determine in cm 3 the volume of plaster required to re-plaster these two walls. Determine the number of bags Paree will need to plaster the two walls. (2) 2.4 Paree is advised to choose a recommended brand of ready-mix plaster available at the store. At the store, there are five different brands and Paree forgets the recommended brand name. If she randomly chooses one of the brands, determine the probability that she has chosen the recommended brand. (2) There is a 0,75 probability that the dampness will return if the wrong brand of ready-mix plaster is used. What is the probability that the dampness will not return, having used the incorrect plaster? (2)

The level of water in the dams in and around KZN have decreased, especially Hazelmere Dam. Water restrictions are implemented dependent on the fullness of the dam, given as a percentage. Volume = Area of base height (5) 2.2 Bongani's latest project is to build a set of shelves. A picture of the shelves he is hoping to build is alongside. (See also Annexure 5A, Figure 1.) The plans for the shelves, along with all of the dimensions (given in inches), are given on Annexures 5A and 5B. 1'' (inch) = 2,54 cm Refer to Figure 2, Annexure 5A. Bongani does not want a shelf that is higher than 1,9 m. Do these shelves meet his requirements? Justify your answer by showing all working. (5) To build the shelves, Bongani will use planks that are 1 m in length and just cut them to the correct size. Calculate the total wood wasted from the 5 planks used to build the bottom shelf. Refer to Figure 3 and Figure 4 found in Annexure 5B The wood that Bongani wants to use for the shelves costs R27,53/m excluding VAT (Value Added Tax) of 14%. According to his calculations, it will cost him less than R1 000 for all the wood, including VAT. From Frankfurt in Germany, they will land at Cape Town International Airport and, after spending a few days in Cape Town, make their way to Johannesburg. 3.1 When arriving in Cape Town, they need to exchange their remaining euros (from Germany) and some pounds (from England) into South African rands. Calculate the amount of South African rands they will have to spend if they land in Cape Town with 180 euros and 800 British pounds. Use the following exchange rates: 1 euro = R13,56 1 British pound = R17,13 (6) 3.2 The map below shows the direct route, as the crow flies, between Cape Town and Johannesburg. If the distance, as the crow flies, between Cape Town and Johannesburg is km, determine the scale, to the nearest million, of the map in the form of 1:... (5) 3.3 If they drive from Cape Town to Johannesburg, they can expect to drive approximately km in 15.5 hours Determine their average speed for the trip. The train schedule is shown on Annexure 6. Samantha is not excited to take the train because she says it will take twice as long as the car trip. By calculating the duration of the journey by train, determine whether she is correct. (3) 3.5 If Samantha and Nivaan make their decision to get to Johannesburg (during the month of April) based purely on cost, which method of travel should they use? Justify your answer by showing the cost of each option. The following conditions must be taken into consideration: They can borrow a friend's car but must pay for their own petrol. They will get the car with a full tank of petrol, but Samantha and Nivaan must leave the car with a full tank of petrol in Johannesburg. The average fuel consumption of the car is 5,8 l/100 km. The average price of petrol is R11,07/l. Tolls from Cape Town to Johannesburg total R138,50.
