2 112 MULTI RISKS MODULE INTRODUCTION Not only is it important to be familiar with the cover under the various sections of Santam s personal policy, but also to have background knowledge of why multi risk policies are marketed, and the analysis of personal and commercial policies. It will thus be expected of you to answer the questions under discussion. MODULE OBJECTIVE The objective of this module is to evaluate your knowledge of the following aspects with regard to all risks insurance: Why insurers market multi risk policies. Analysis of a personal lines multi risk policy. Analysis of a commercial lines multi risk policy. Difference between personal lines and commercial lines policies. TASK QUESTION 1 Discuss two reasons why insurers are constantly developing new products. 2 QUESTION 2 Name three benefits for the insured of personal lines multi risk policies. 3
3 113 QUESTION 3 A client applies for personal lines insurance, but he only wants cover for theft of the contents of his house and outbuildings, accidental damage to the contents of his house, and medical expenses for his household employee. Which section of the policy would you recommend to this client? 1 QUESTION 4 Name any eight insured risks that are covered in terms of the House Contents Section of a personal lines multi risk policy, as discussed in this module. 8 QUESTION 5 A commercial lines multi risk policy offers cover against a variety of risks. Name any five insured risks in terms of the Buildings Section. 5
4 114 QUESTION 6 Name two benefits with regard to the options a client has in terms of a commercial lines multi risk policy. QUESTION 7 A prospective client has his own business and wants to take out a commercial multi risk policy. Name any three sections. QUESTION 8 Name any two differences between the personal lines policy and the commercial lines policy. 3 QUESTION 9 The insured is an accountant and decides to run his business from home. Some clients visit him from time to time and he is afraid that they might injury themselves while at his premises and then hold him liable. 2 Would the insured enjoy cover for this type of liability in terms of his personal lines policy? Motivate your answer. 2
