1 Harry S Truman AIFA June, 2007 Officers President: Michael Mickelson President Elect: Mark Iglehart Secretary-Treasurer: Lori Flagler Association Executive: Shirley Boston-Otis National Committeeman: Phil Burress State Committeeman: Albert Tranchilla Membership Chairman: Wayne Burch IFAPAC-IFAPIC Chairman: Lori Flagler Immediate Past President: Steve Million Board of Directors David Anderson Robert Jones Al Tranchilla Barrett Smith Richard Hough Mark MacKay Michael Oehrke Harry S Truman Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors A recommendation for the future of our Association On May 2, 2007 a task team of Association officers, board members and members met to discuss the future of our Association. We focused our discussion on what we should do to grow our membership and to enhance the value of membership in our Association. Our discussion questions included: Where do we go and grow from here? What are the challenges that we face? What pieces do we have in place that we can build upon? What could we do? What should we do? Why should we change? What are the potential pitfalls? What are the potential wins? The task team recommends the following for approval with implementation beginning on September 1, Lower our dues structure to $ per year or $23.00 per month this is a reduction of $50.00 per year (Dues include $ for national, $85.00 for state and $50.00 for our local). Please note that we will charge for meals on the day of the meeting. 4 major meetings per year to be held on September 13, 2007, December 13, 2007, March 13, 2008, and June 12, 2008 (all meeting dates are on the 2nd Thursday of each respective month). Meeting Focus: September Taste of the MDRT/Life Insurance Awareness December Continuing Education Day/Toys for Tots March New Member Orientation Day/IFAPAC June Annual meeting/golf Tournament Community Involvement: We want to explore our best options before proceeding. We are looking at the Fire Fighters Recognition Event, the alternative school and Habitat for Humanity as potential projects. Task team will advise on their recommendation. Meeting location to be determined by need We will have a Life Insurance Awareness advertisement in the local newspaper as we have done in the past. This ad lists the names of individual members of our Association who belong to NAIFA and asks the reader if their agent/advisor is listed. If not, why not? This is a powerful tool that we can use for awareness. We will offer ad spots for $25.00 per agent. The cost will be collected prior to the ad going to press. This is a cost effective way to get your name out to the public
2 The last monthly meeting of the year will be held on June 14th at the Lakewood Oaks Golf Club. 9:00 Board Meeting 10:15 CE Insurance Regulatory Reform Panel Discussion 11:30 Installation of Officers and Members of the Board of Directors Program will be Sales Ideas The speaker will be Brent Ewert, AAMS of Lawing Financial His biography is on page 8 of the newsletter. Ask for referrals in a client-centered way A Client-centered approach to referrals always puts the client's or prospect's interests first. For example, if you want to tell people you get paid with referrals, make sure you do it in a client-centered manner. "The second way I get paid is that if you see the value in the work I do for you, you'll introduce me to others who might also value this work. What his means to you is: I hope to earn the right to those referrals. I'll make sure you get the perfect policy. I'll make sure you understand everything along the way. If any problems arise, I hope you'll feel comfortable in introducing me to your friends and associates." The key phrase here is what this means to you. Whenever you tell people about your practice, if you're saying "what this means to you" and following this up with a benefit to those people, you're being client-centered. FACT: Insurance and financial advisors who are members of NAIFA earn more than those who are not members.
