A U T C i t y C a m p u s AUT invites students from partner institutions all over the world to spend a semester in our Exchange programme. Exchange students do not pay any fees to AUT, just home university fees. Students on the exchange programme earn credits towards their home university degree, by choosing papers (courses) from the faculty at AUT that best fits their studies. Exchange students get the opportunity to immerse themselves in New Zealand student culture, while experiencing all the country has to offer! As an Exchange student you will: Receive a warm, distinctly New Zealand welcome onto our campus. Be supported in adapting to life and study in a new environment. Receive ample opportunities for you to make new friends, to learn about our unique culture and to discover the superb natural scenery New Zealand is famous for. Why New Zealand? New Zealand is situated in the South Pacific and consists of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island, separated by a three-hour ferry ride or a short flight.

3 Why New Zealand? New Zealand is situated in the South Pacific and consists of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island, separated by a three-hour ferry ride or a short flight. Since the Māori (our first nation people) arrived about 800 years ago, many different cultures have made and call New Zealand home. New Zealand is incomparable in its beauty and geographical diversity from long golden sand beaches and lush native bush, to geothermal moonscapes, sparkling mountain glaciers and amazing wildlife. Regardless of the time of year, the climate is usually good enough to enable you to appreciate the scenery and experience the friendliness that Kiwis (New Zealanders) are world renowned for. And the great advantage of New Zealand is that all of our diverse physical, cultural, and artistic landscapes are so close to each other! New Zealand is a stable, English-speaking democracy, with a population of just over four million people, and is comparable in size to Great Britain and Japan. New Zealand society is ethnically diverse made up of Māori, Pakeha (people of European descent) and many other minority groups including Pacific Islanders, Chinese, Koreans, and Indians. Our culture is unique, dynamic and sophisticated. It is a culture that celebrates the many different lifestyles we live, and the stories we have to tell. New Zealand is located three hours to the east of Australia by plane, an overnight flight west of the USA, or a ten to twelve hour direct flight from most Pacific Rim countries. 4 Why Auckland? Auckland is ranked as third equal in the world for cities to live and work in. It is located in the north of the North Island and is the largest and most culturally diverse of New Zealand's cities, with a population of more than 1.3 million people 27% born in other countries. The urban area is twice the size of London. The city is surrounded by two harbours the Waitemata and the Manukau and is often referred to as the City of Sails due to Aucklanders love for water sports and the sea. A cloak of rainforest covers the surrounding hills and dozens of dormant volcanic cones dot the landscape. The nearby Hauraki Gulf is home to several beautiful islands, easily accessible by ferry. Auckland's climate is temperate and perfect for enjoying the many beautiful and clean beaches within easy reach of the city. Temperatures range from an average of 24 degrees in summer (December to March) to 16 degrees in winter (June to August). Auckland is a city of cultural diversity with a large Polynesian, Māori and Asian, as well as European, population. This diversity brings with it an abundance of unique cultural experiences and entertainment, a passion for the arts, food and fashion, and a bustling inner city. We suggest that you select the ones that interest you, and get approval from your Programme Leader at your home university to ensure that these papers can be fully cross credited to your home degree. Depending on the partnership agreement, paper selection may be limited to certain faculties and schools. Your International Office can advise you on which faculty you can study in at AUT, and we will guide you through the paper selection process once we have received your completed application and issued you an offer of place. Most papers (courses) are 15 points each (meaning students will choose four papers per semester), though some papers are 30 points. 8 Student Visa Students are required by law to hold a student visa for the duration of their academic study. Your student visa should show the correct programme and institute of study details. As an exchange student you must obtain your student visa before entering New Zealand. To apply for your student visa, while in your home country you can go to the Immigration New Zealand website to find the Immigration New Zealand office nearest to you. You ll also find appropriate application forms and documentations here Please note that offshore application processes can take anywhere between 1 3 months depending on where you submit your application. We would advise you to submit your student visa application as soon as possible to avoid any delays in your plans to study at AUT University. Note: It is the student s responsibility to ensure they obtain a student visa and that it is valid for the entire duration of their study. Insurance The New Zealand Government requires all international students to have appropriate medical and travel insurance for the length of their study in New Zealand. AUT University provides a comprehensive insurance policy for all international students. You will automatically be invoiced for this policy and receive payment information regarding this before arriving at AUT. Policy information can be found here - If you do not wish to be covered by AUT s insurance provider, you must purchase an AUT approved plan, and send a copy of receipt to exchange@aut.ac.nz before arriving in NZ. A list of its approved insurance options can be found at: Alternative insurance plans not on the AUT approved list will not be accepted.

WSA is located right in the heart of Auckland City, just a two minute walk from AUT City Campus. Details on how to apply to WSA will be sent out later in the application process.
