8 Jeffrey Leng: SBA PRESIDENT: Greetings my fellow SCU Law Students, As an officer of both SIPLA and APALSA, I have the experience to successfully perform the tasks required of the SBA President. Additionally, I know the struggles organizations face and the frustration students have had. I plan to bring that knowledge and experience to push SBA to the next level in student government. As President, I want to create more NETWORKING opportunities for the students. I want to fully utilize the different graduate and undergraduate schools at Santa Clara as well as their Alumni network in order to expand the network of our law students beyond those of a few attorneys and judges. This will help develop stronger career opportunities, both now and in the future. I also want to create a more COHESIVE environment with the organizations, since they can sometimes reach students on a more intimate level than SBA. This will involve a creation of an advisory committee which will include a representative from each organization. This combined with my philosophy on TRANSPARENCY of SBA decisions will hopefully ensure that every voice, big or small, is heard. My name is Jeffrey Leng and I want to be YOUR next SBA President. Michelle Petlow: My name is Michelle Petlow and I am running for SBA President! I am currently a 3L PT student and my experience includes FLY mentor PTLSA board secretary ( 09) & Vice-President ( 10) Co-chaired SBA Carnival Orientation leader for FT and PT students SBA Alternative Spring Break-NOLA participant ( 09) & Co-leader ( 10) My goals if elected SBA President Work on bridging the gap between PT and FT students to create a more cohesive community Encourage co-sponsorship of events to create endless possibilities and give students a chance to meet new people Creating more community service opportunities through localized spring breaks and events with a smaller time commitment Bigger venues for bar reviews and Barrister s Ball to allow more students to attend In the past year, I have worked extensively with students and the administration to learn the intricacies of the rules in order to make events happen. I know that the position of SBA President is a daunting task, but I am a PT student without a full time job and I know that I will be able to give the position the time, energy, and follow through that it truly needs.
9 Carlos Rosario: I am running for SBA President this year because I'd like to continue to help Santa Clara with the fullest of my capabilities. The last two years, I have been a class representative, and a Full Time Co- Vice President. I have also Chaired the Social Committee, served on the finance committee, and served on the BLSA and La Raza boards. If you'd like some background on myself: I was raised in Santa Clara and went to the Jesuit High School in San Jose. I attended USC to get my BS and MS in Computer Engineering. Like many here, I'm an IP student. I also enjoy community service. I mentor at KIPP Collegiate Academy in San Jose Unified, as well as teach criminal procedure to at-risk youth with the FLY Law program. This year, I hope to increase student org activity by recognizing those clubs that have hosted outstanding events. I'd like the clubs to be more involved with the finance committee, so they know why and where the club funding goes. In addition, I think I will work well with the new SBA board to continue providing quality, fun events. Thank you for all your support, Carlos SBA VICE PRESIDENT (FULL TIME): Christian Cornejo and Jessica Montoya: Christian and Jessica are running as your SBA Vice Presidents! We are asking for your vote and support because SCU Law deserves nothing but the best, and that s exactly what we will bring! We offer vision and experience. Together we have extensive event planning and negotiations experience having contributed to various events in Orange County, Las Vegas, Austin, Dallas, and in Colorado. We also offer experience within SBA, including involvement as a 1L class representative, Barrister's Ball, Bar Reviews, Casino Night, and Wellness Week. For next year, we envision a year full of numerous opportunities to kick back and balance the stress of our rigorous law school lives. In addition to traditional events, we wish to see more professional and social networking opportunities for students to create effective relationships with faculty, alumni, Bay area attorneys, and the SCU Law community. We feel it essential that there be communication and feedback between the student body and their representatives. As your SBA Co-VP we promise to put forth our best effort towards that end. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about our candidacy Vote vision & experience, vote Christian & Jessica!
