1 Our Mission To improve the quality of life in communities we serve by promoting the financial well-being of their residents. University of Iowa Community Credit Union 2013 Annual Report

2 Over the past decade your credit union has solidified its role as a member-driven organization that listens to its member-owners in order to provide the highest level of value. The credit union has grown by providing superior member service, coupled with a strategic focus on supporting the communities we serve. In these times of economic uncertainty, we ve grown because of our focus on the basics better rates, people, and service. In short, we ve grown because of your belief in the credit union philosophy of people helping people. So what are the outcomes of this member-driven strategy? Consider the following: service to our communities We donated over $640,000 to the communities we serve, along with thousands of hours in volunteer time. service to our employees We were once again nominated by our employees as one of the best workplaces in Iowa by the Des Moines Register, and were chosen as one of the top mid-sized workplaces in Iowa. Our staff turnover remains low while our employee satisfaction results were the highest we ve enjoyed since we began surveying them seven years ago. service to the membership We enjoyed outstanding growth in both member loans and deposits, and parlayed that growth into better pricing for our 110,000 member-owners. We placed 1st in the nation among all 14,000 federally insured credit unions and banks in returning our profits back to our membership in the form of great rates on both loans and deposits. Our 2013 Member Survey indicated 94.6% of the membership is either satisfied or very satisfied with the service of their cooperative. We completed development of our new Financial Center in North Liberty as well as our new branches in Marion and Cedar Falls. Of greatest importance is the way in which we accomplished these objectives. We have reached these pinnacles by embracing our values. We practice values such as trust, truth and caring daily in our interactions with members and teammates. Achieving outcomes has always been a prerequisite to success in business, but the manner in which organizations achieve those outcomes is the hallmark of a quality institution. I close by expressing my sincere thanks to you, our membership, for your continued patronage and support over this past year. It was indeed a special year made possible by the exemplary leadership of our volunteer Board of Directors and diligently executed by the efforts of staff throughout the cooperative. My thanks to both these groups for their continued dedication, commitment, and collective role in making this credit union a remarkably special place for our members and the communities we serve. Jeffrey A. Disterhoft President/CEO We continue to serve our members, our staff, and the community. From the President Jeffrey A. 3 UICCU has been named a Best Workplace for 3 years in a row by the Des Moines Register. From the Chairperson karin franklin In 1938, 27 employees of the University Hospital came together to form the State University of Iowa Employees Credit Union. It was open for business one hour each day and accumulated $ in assets after the first year of operation. Its mission as a cooperative was to offer reasonable terms on borrowed funds. 75 years later, University of Iowa Community Credit Union builds on that vision. Michael Kreiser Photography There are many things I love about UICCU. Topping the list is working with our members and staff. Our credit union has a strong presence in the community. That commitment carries over into our work environment. Knowing that UICCU supports and serves its members, as well as our community, gives me fulfillment and peace of mind every day. Josh Marquez Your volunteer Board of Directors continued its efforts to provide the most effective governance of your cooperative, and is proud of the following accomplishments achieved by the Credit Union s stellar staff over the past year: UICCU was once again recognized as the top financial institution in America for Total Return to the Member. Independent research group Callahan & Associates has now ranked UICCU first in the nation 10 out of 11 quarters. New branches were built in Marion and Cedar Falls to serve thousands of members in the central and northern corridor. UICCU Insurance was added to offer members discounted premiums on home, auto, life and business insurance. For the third year, UICCU was recognized as a top workplace in Iowa through research and staff surveys conducted by the Des Moines Register. As we have done in the past, UICCU commissioned an extensive member survey to be conducted in We are happy to report a continuing positive trend for both member satisfaction and the likelihood of current members to recommend our cooperative to family and friends. We completed our new Financial Center, bringing support departments that were previously in five different locations all under one roof, eliminating rental costs and improving the efficiency of the cooperative. Your UICCU donated a record $640,000 to 293 local charities and contributed over 3,800 volunteer hours of service to non-profit causes and organizations. As you will see in this Annual Report, UICCU has witnessed a lot of growth over the years. I m proud to report that your cooperative is strong and sound, but what does not show up in the numbers is perhaps most important. Charts and graphs do not show how we save members money every day, or how we teach members to be smarter with their money and prepare them for their financial future, or how we try to personalize every interaction with members to provide exceptional service. Those frequent intangible acts are the keys to our success. We are sincerely grateful for your support and patronage. While we have experienced a lot of changes in our first 75 years, you can rest assured that one thing will never change - our commitment to providing the highest level of service to our members, employees, and the communities we serve. Thank you for being a part of UICCU. Karin Franklin Chairperson, Board of Directors

4 1 out of every 5 vehicles sold in the Corridor is financed at the UICCU. From the Credit Committee Chuck McComas, Chair As a credit union, there can be no greater purpose for our existence than to provide convenient, low-cost credit to those in need. Providing that credit was the reason congress created credit unions back in 1934, and it remains at the core of our focus today. Given the continued volatile economic climate we find ourselves in, we are proud to continue our long-standing commitment to the credit needs of our membership. It was indeed an exceptional year in terms of providing convenient and inexpensive credit to our members, as total loans increased $460 million over the year, representing a healthy 31% increase. This growth is a reflection of not only a business model focused on price, but also a diversified approach to lending. Highlights from each segment of our lending are as follows: Commercial We continued to provide cost-effective commercial loans to borrowers throughout eastern Iowa, as our portfolio grew 38% over the past year. We became even more efficient in operations while continuing to provide our members with the highest level of service. Mortgage We continued to develop new key partners in the various markets we serve, which allows us to offer even better rates and closing fees for our members. We reviewed our operations to look for areas to increase efficiency or build better tracking mechanisms as well as enhancing our mortgage loan originator system. We originated over $800 million in first mortgage loans throughout Iowa. Retail We developed many new indirect automotive relationships in a broader geography over the year, and in doing so provided cost effective and convenient credit to almost 9,000 families throughout eastern Iowa. We were also a trusted resource for home equity, personal loans, and credit cards for our members, as all products enjoyed record growth or near record growth during the year as well. We also had our best year with over-the-counter auto loans as we originated almost $102 million and assisted almost 6,000 families throughout eastern Iowa. Your Credit Committee is dedicated to protecting the safety and soundness of your Credit Union and looks forward to the continued opportunity to care for the borrowing needs of our members by making money available and conveniently accessible, offering excellent loan products and services, and providing exemplary service. Respectfully submitted, Chuck McComas, Chair Credit Committee Michael Kreiser Photography It has been a privilege to have worked in many departments at the Credit Union over my 30 plus years of service. I have served hundreds of people who have become loyal credit union members and along the way many of these members have become my long time friends. I feel so fortunate to come to work every day and still enjoy what I do. Norma Heck

5 Callahan & Associates ranks your Credit Union #1 in the United States for total return 10 of the last 11 quarters. From the Audit Committee fred mims As authorized by the Credit Union s by-laws, the Audit Committee retained the accounting firm of McGladrey LLP to provide external auditing services during the past year. As in years past, McGladrey s comprehensive audit report indicated that the Credit Union s financial statements are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Your Credit Union also conducts internal audits of all areas of the UICCU to evaluate the adequacy of internal controls, adherence to internal policies and procedures, as well as compliance with state and federal rules and regulations. The Credit Union also retained McGladrey LLP to perform an institution-wide risk assessment and audit plan recommendation in The risk assessment was reviewed by the Audit Committee and Internal Audit and recommendations were used to update the Credit Union s internal audit plan. The Audit Committee wishes to commend the Internal Audit department for their continued good work on behalf of the Credit Union s membership. During December 2013, the Credit Union received its examination by the Iowa Credit Union Division and the NCUA, as of September 30, This exam focuses on financial risk areas and your Board of Director s and Credit Union management s oversight and operational management of these areas. The exam focuses on UICCU s lending and investment policies, its asset liability management policies, and its ongoing performance as measured by several key financial ratios such as earnings and capital adequacy. Your Credit Union received a favorable examination report from its regulators. All Credit Union accounts are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). In addition to deposit insurance, the Credit Union also maintains a multi-million dollar faithful performance bond, which provides coverage for our professional staff and volunteer directors.
