1 Ally Ally Quick Claim: Mobile App Design (Android) Description of Project Ally Financial Inc., is an American financial holding company headquartered in Detroit. The company provides a range of financial services including auto financing, corporate financing, insurance, and online banking. Ally is one of the top auto lenders in the U.S. by volume. Did you know that 4 out of 5 Americans cannot afford an unexpected $400 expense? This is what Ally s Insurance products cover: unexpected vehicle repairs. We have been administering vehicle service contracts for over 40 years, and are continually looking for new ways to optimize and innovate in this space. The goal of this project is to allow repair facilities to file an insurance claim, electronically providing Ally with enough information to ensure the repair is warranted, and correctly diagnosed. The project team will design and deliver an prototype Android mobile App delivering a best inclass experience for the repair facility, as well as the end customer, making it easier than ever to do business with Ally. Phase: 1 Base Goal Minimally viable end to end prototype. The app will provide customers with the ability to look up and retrieve contract information, capture photos, and enter claim information. All usability items (e.g. buttons, page format and colors) maintain Ally brand standards. Phase II: Stretch Goal Include video upload functionality Validate the Mobile App via focus groups with various clients (call center reps, IT professionals, Dealers). Deliver a full critique of current system and design plan for necessary and suggested updates. Phase III: Stretch Goals (one of more the following) The mobile app is prepared to authenticate the Ally customer s account. Page 1 of 5
2 Implement a function that will connect the customer directly to an agent within the Operations Center. Location Project work will take place on campus during the WN17 and FA17 semesters. Students will travel to Itasca, Il early in the project to visit national call center, gaining a better understanding of the customer base. (MDP will provide necessary transportation) All key presentations will take place: AllyDetroit Center (Formerly One Detroit Center) 500 Woodward Ave, 14 th Floor Detroit, MI (MDP will provide necessary transportation) Project Sponsor Mentor Lauren Redd, Project Coordinator, Ally Financial Insurance Operations Lauren Redd is the Project Coordinator for the Analytics and Data Management Team at Ally Insurance. She ensures the appropriate stakeholders are engaged to facilitate project requirements are completed in an efficient and timely manner. Lauren began her career at Ally 2 years ago in a Dealer Products and Services rotational position. During her time at Ally, Lauren has served on many special projects that were implemented to launch new products, increase revenues, and build new customer relationships. Lauren has actively supported efforts needed from Insurance Operations Product Configuration, Data Governance and Direct to Consumer Management teams. Lauren holds a BA Finance Degree from Michigan State University. Lauren s professional career includes experiences in both Automotive and Banking Industry of Financial Services. Prior to joining Ally, Lauren worked for Comerica Bank. Page 2 of 5
3 Executive Sponsor Mentor Kirsten Elsworth, Director of Analytics & Data Management, Ally Financial Insurance Operations Kirsten Elsworth is the Director of Analytics & Data Management for the Insurance Division of Ally Financial. She started her career as an actuarial intern, trading in math books for a love of data. With a BS in Applied Technology from Eastern Michigan University, Kirsten has been able to apply the rigor of her mathematics and data management background, with a practical, logical approach to solve various problems across the organization. Her team would tell you that she is the self-proclaimed, World s Greatest Analyst, as she thoroughly enjoys the moments when she gets to dig-in and help solve a tough problem. She has designed and implemented multiple reporting and data warehouse solutions, including a $12M Global Data Warehouse. In her current role, Kirsten acts as the Insurance Business Lead for Data Governance, while continuing to grow an analytics team that collaborates across all areas of the organization. Project Faculty Mentor Dr. Amir Kamil, Computer Science I am a Lecturer at the University of Michigan. This semester, I am teaching EECS 280: Programming and Introductory Data Structures. I am currently doing research with the Computer Languages and Systems Software group at Lawrence Berkeley Lab. My work involves programming models, program analysis, languages, and compilers for parallel computing. Key Skills & Project Roles MDP Sponsored Projects are both a professional and academic learning experience for students. By participating in this program, students are actively preparing for graduate school and a professional career. As part of the experience, MDP expects professional behavior. To best prepare you for future professional opportunities, your experiences on this MDP team will be very broad. In addition to key technical skills that you will bring to the team, you will engage deeply in the self-directed learning of new and important concepts, demonstrate flexibility, collaboration, and cooperation, and develop strong professional communication skills. This also means that you will need to be able to work outside of your traditional area of study in the true multidisciplinary nature of our projects. You won t always be able to anticipate how your skills and expertise will be used, so the MDP Sponsored Project will challenge you to grow and Page 3 of 5

Company Overview Ally Financial Inc. is a financial holding company and a bank holding company. The Company s banking subsidiary, Ally Bank, is a franchise in the Internet, telephone, mobile and mail banking market. The Company operates through three primary segments: Automotive Finance operations, Insurance operations and Mortgage operations. Its Automotive Finance operations Page 4 of 5
5 segment provides automotive financing services to consumers and automotive dealers. Its Insurance operations segment offers both consumer financial and insurance products sold through the automotive dealer channel, and commercial insurance products sold to dealers. Its Mortgage operations segment includes the management of its held-for-investment mortgage loan portfolio and the execution of bulk purchases of jumbo and low-to-moderate income (LMI) mortgage loans originated by third parties. Its main lines of business are Dealer Financial Services, which includes its Automotive Finance and Insurance operations, and Mortgage.
