3 From the Investment Desk Equity: The turn of the tide 2018 was a difficult year for the NSE small cap index and NSE midcap index, losing ~26% and ~13% respectively, whereas the Sensex gave a positive return of ~4.5%. More than 70% of all NSE 500 stocks closed the year with negative returns. Of those, 35% gave negative return in excess of 30%, showcasing the breadth of correction in valuations, which had run up to historical extremes. We believe the pendulum of investor psychology has swung to the point of maximum fear, as showcased by our proprietary risk appetite indicators - implying a pullback rally globally and short covering in the domestic market could be on the cards. The dollar index is set to peak out after months of consolidation, which should be supportive of emerging market currencies going forward. Furthermore, a sharp correction in crude prices should lead to improved macroeconomic indicators and be supportive for FPI flows into Indian equities. From a liquidity perspective, EM flows outperformed DMs in the month of December, particularly, Asian economies. BFSI remains our preferred theme with public sector banks expected to lead the outperformance. The headwinds that affected public sector banks have abated enough to warrant at least a partial narrowing of the valuation gap against private peers. Accordingly we have increased our exposure to large PSU banks in the preceding month. We continue to like the domestic consumption story; however, given the relatively rich sectoral valuation, we remain selective in our stock picking. We also continue to remain positive on select capex plays. Given our belief that rupee is likely to show strength going ahead and emerging global growth concerns, we remain cautious on the Indian IT sector. From the wider macro perspective, we will continue to closely track two key events in the short to medium term, the uncertainty over which has most market participants on the sidelines: Firstly, the upcoming general elections, which will provide clarity on the future political landscape, and secondly, corporate earnings where the micro and macro domestic outlook will crystallize further following the recent oil and liquidity shock. The known unknowns in the year ahead gives us confidence in the effectiveness of dynamic money management approach over the traditional buy and hold strategy, as we usher in an interesting Fixed Income: Election season brings populist concerns India benchmark 10year GSec yield had started the year at ~7.32% and ended at ~7.37%. This almost benign 5bps rise however masks the significant volatility through the year as benchmark yield touched a low of 7.16% in April and a high of 8.20% in September, before a correction in crude prices and sustained pace of RBI OMOs resulted in a year-end rally. We believe that the volatility of the year gone by is a harbinger of times ahead, as markets globally adjust to an era of normalized monetary policy another rate hike by the Fed and transition to a post QE era by DM central banks even as domestic factors, elections, fiscal policy etc. add to the uncertainty. December itself proved to be an eventful month with an unexpected change of guard at the RBI, increase in pace of RBI OMO buys, crude prices continuing to remain under pressure amidst worries over global economic growth, while inflation continued to plunge amidst food deflation. Even as prospects of monetary policy stance transitioning to a more dovish stance and continued RBI OMO support supported a rally in yields, possibility of fiscal slippage on account of continued weak indirect tax collections and possibility of populist measures from a government approaching the general elections on the back foot after reverses in the state elections, have led to the emergence of fiscal concerns. While, fiscal slippage seems to be a given, the degree is a source of uncertainty, with possibility of pre-election agricultural sops, and possible mitigation from an ad-hoc RBI dividend being key factors to watch. On the global front, UST curve inversion, despite a confident Fed further tightening policy, seems to foretell extreme risk aversion which has also resulted in muted FPI inflows into the Indian debt market. Under these circumstances, even as the crude price fall led improvement in macroeconomic narrative had led us to favour an elongated portfolio duration, we remain cautious as we head into the new year. While, weakening global growth and attendant disinflationary impulses globally seem to be the likely theme for 2019, in the immediate term we will continue to favour a dynamic approach in managing duration as we continue to track domestic fiscal variables. 3

19 GLOSSARY Sharpe Ratio Sharpe Ratio is a risk to reward ratio, it measures portfolio returns generated in excess to the investment in risk-free asset, for per unit of total risk taken. While, positive Sharpe ratio indicates, portfolio compensating investors with excess returns (over risk-free rate) for the commensurate risk taken; negative Sharpe ratio indicates, investors are better off investing in risk-free assets. Beta Beta of a portfolio is a number indicating the relation between portfolio returns with that of the market index i.e. it measure the volatility, or systematic risk, of a portfolio in comparison to the market as a whole. Modified Duration A formula that expresses the measurable change in the value ofa security in response to a change in interest rates. Modified duration of portfolio can be used to anticipate the change in market value of portfolio for every change in portfolio yield. R Squared It is a statistical measure of how closely the portfolio returns are correlated with its benchmark. HOW TO READ FACTSHEET Fund Manager An employee of the asset management company such as a mutual fund or life insurer, who manages investments of the scheme. He is usually part of a larger team of fund managers and research analysts. Application Amount for Fresh Subscription This is the minimum investment amount for a new investor in a tual fund scheme. Minimum Additional Amount This is the minimum investment amount for an existing investor in a mutual fund scheme. Yield to Maturity The Yield to Maturity or the YTM is the rate of return anticipated on a bond if held until maturity. YTM is expressed as an annual rate. The YTM factors in the bond s current market price, par value, coupon interest rate and time to maturity. SIP Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) works on the principle of making periodic investments of a fixed sum. It works similar to a recurring bank deposit. For instance, an investor may opt for an SIP that invests `500 every 15th of the month in an equity fund for a period of three years. NAV The NAV or the net asset value is the total asset value per unit of the mutual fund after deducting all related and permissible expenses. AUM AUM or assets under management refers to the recent / updated cumulative market value of investments managed by a mutual fund. Modified Duration Modified duration is the price sensitivity and the percentage change in price for a unit change in yield. Standard Deviation A statistical measure that defines expected volatility/risk associated with a portfolio. This explains the variation/deviation from the average returns delivered by the portfolio. A higher standard deviation means higher volatility (risk) and a lower standard deviation means lower volatility Risk Free Return The theoretical rate of return of an investment with safest (zero risk) investment in a country. Total Expense Ratio Total expenses charged to scheme for the month expressed as a percentage to average monthly net assets. Average Maturity Weighted average maturity of the securities in scheme. Portfolio Yield (Yield To Maturity) Weighted average yield of the securities in scheme portfolio. Rating Profile Mutual funds invest in securities after evaluating their creditworthiness as disclosed by the ratings. A depiction of the mutual fund in various investments based on their ratings becomes the rating profile of the fund. Typically, this is a feature of debt funds. Benchmark A group of securities, usually a market index, whose performance is used as a standard or benchmark to measure investment performance of mutual funds, among other investments. Some typical benchmarks include the NIFTY, Sensex, BSE200, BSE500, 10- Year Gsec Load A mutual fund may have a sales charge or load at the time of entry and/or exit to compensate the distributor/agent. load is charged at the time an investor purchases the units of a mutual fund. The entry load is added to the prevailing NAV at the time of investment. For instance, if the NAV is `100 and the entry load is 1%, the investor will enter the fund at `101. (Note SEBI, vide circular dated June 30, 2009 has abolished entry load and mandated that the upfront commission to distributors will be paid by the investor directly to the distributor, based on his assessment of various factors including the service rendered by the distributor). Load load is charged at the time an investor redeems the units of a mutual fund. The exit load is reduced from the prevailing NAV at the time of redemption. The investor will receive redemption proceed at net value of NAV less Load. For instance if the NAV is `100 and the exit load is 1%, the investor will receive `99. 19
