3 LATEST LOGISTICS AND FORWARDING NEWS FRANCE A new route by Air France between Paris and the city of Oran in Algeria Since the 25 th September, Air France has launched a new route between Paris (Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport) and the city of Oran in Algeria. Three flights per week are scheduled with the Airbus A320 plane taking off from Paris on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The industrial base of Oran focuses on oil and gas activities. Road-rail service between the north-west and the east of France A new company, Rennes Terminal, has been set up to offer road-rail service between the north-west and the east of France, with a daily round trip between Rennes and Lyon. The operator intends to include in the near future rail connections to the port of Marseille Fos and in the long term, to Italy. Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a GRI from France and northern Europe to the east coast of South America The shipping company Hapag-Lloyd will apply as from the 1 st November, a General Rate Increase (GRI) from France and other northern European countries to the east coast of South America (Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina). The GRI will be of 150 euros per 20 feet container and of 250 euros per 40 feet container.

4 INDIA India, the third biggest importer of Scotch whisky in the world According to the Scotch Whisky Association, India has become the third biggest importer of Scotch whisky in the world with 41 million bottles ordered during the first six months of The value amounted to 43 million pounds sterling. Scotch is the term used for whisky produced from malted barley through a legally defined process and originating from Scotland. The Scotch Whisky Association has asked the UK government to prioritise in its discussions with the Indian government, the liberalisation of the customs duty on Scotch whisky which is currently a hefty 150%. The Inland Waterways Authority has signed a contract with DST for designing special vessels The Inland Waterways Authority of India has signed a contract with German company DST to design vessels that would be suited to navigate on the 1620 km stretch of NW-1 (River Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly). DST must design vessels that can navigate on low draft while being economically viable and environmentally friendly. The vessels will carry all types of cargo on the inland waterways of India. Importing pulses from South Africa The Government of India wants to finalise a memorandum of understanding with South Africa so as to import pulses from that country to meet its growing consumption requirements and try to curb price rise.

5 MADAGASCAR 14 firms express their interest to become Air Madagascar strategic partner 14 firms have responded to the bid of Air Madagascar in quest of a strategic partner. 49% of the shares of the air carrier will be offered to that strategic partner which in exchange will be bound to finance the development of Air Madagascar. Furthermore, the 51% majority shareholding will remain the property of the Malagasy State. The World Bank will bring its support to identify the potential partner whose name will be revealed by February A new factory near Tamatave for processing the essential oil extracted from clove Production of clove will be favourably impacted by the entry into operation this December of a new factory, Natema near Tamatave. The factory belongs to a joint-venture between the international Givaudan group specialised in perfumery and the local company Henri Fraise sons. Natema will process eugenol, the essential oil extracted from clove, for use in the production of different aromas for export. The annual production capacity of the factory is around 800 tons per year, making it among one of the biggest in the world. A Special Economic Zone to be launched by the Government A Special Economic Zone will be created in the region of Antsiranana to attract foreign investors interested in its high biodiversity potential and tourism sites.

6 MAURITIUS The chairman of DP World expected to visit Mauritius this month The chairman of the port terminals management company DP World of Dubai, sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayen is expected to visit Mauritius this month to give a fresh start to the discussions on the investments in Port Louis. DP World has expressed its interest to invest more than Rs 2.5 billion in Mauritius, especially to enhance the port infrastructure against 40% of the shares of the local Cargo Handling Corporation Ltd and in the implementation of a Special Economic Zone at Riche Terre over 325 acres of land. Export of scrap metal allowed again under specific conditions The Government of Mauritius has reviewed its stand. It has allowed again companies operating in the Manufacturing and the Freeport sectors, which import raw metal, to export their metal waste and by-products. A delegation from Ghana will look into business possibilities with Mauritius Tutu II, the monarch of the Kingdom of Ashanti, Ghana, will visit Mauritius next month, with a high-level delegation of economic operators to look into entering business possibilities with Mauritius.

7 MOZAMBIQUE A new 770 million steel factory to be constructed in the Revobue Industrial Free Zone The governor of the western Mozambican province of Tete, Paulo Auade has announced that a steel factory will be set up in the near future in the recently created Revobue Industrial Free Zone. The factory will have the capacity to produce tonnes of steel bars per year, as from January The company Capitol Iron and Steel intends to invest 770 million dollars in the factory. An industrial park to be set up China will help Mozambique to establish an industrial park so as to create new employment opportunities. The Ambassador of China in Mozambique has told the Mozambican Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosario that the Chinese government would send a group of specialists to Mozambique next year to start that project. ENI plans to construct a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel near the north coast The Italian company ENI specialised in the supply of energy plans to construct a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel that would supply gas extracted from the Rovuma basin near the north coast of Mozambique. ENI is currently in quest of funding for this project that is estimated at 5.4 billion US dollars.

8 REUNION ISLAND A total of 37 million euros will be invested in a commercial centre A new commercial centre with a hyper market bearing the commercial brand E. Leclerc, will be constructed in the region of St. Joseph. The works are expected to begin next year and to be completed by The commercial centre will cover a total surface area of square metres and consist in addition to the hyper market, of 21 shops and 3 restaurants. A total of 37 million euros will be invested in the project. Code sharing agreement between Air Austral and Air India The air carrier of Reunion Island, Air Austral has signed since the end of September 2016, a code sharing agreement with Air India for the link between Saint Denis airport and Chennai but also for destinations beyond these 2 points. Air Austral is now able to offer under its own code (UU), flights departing from Reunion Island to destinations of the Indian company beyond Chennai such as Mumbai, Delhi or Kochi. In return, Air India can benefit the network of Air Austral in the Indian Ocean namely the Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar. The second Boeing Dreamliner of Air Austral in service as from the 2 nd November 2016 Air Austral intends to put into operation its second Boeing Dreamliner as from the 2 nd November 2016 on two direct flights (Wednesday and Saturday) between St. Denis (Reunion Island) and Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi (Thailand). The stop over at Chennai (India) will be cancelled.

9 OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD Hapag-Lloyd orders new reefers The shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has ordered state-of-the-art refrigerated containers to strengthen its position in the transport of temperature-sensitive goods. This will enable various types of fruits and vegetables to be transported during longer periods of time while maintaining a consistent quality. Hapag-Lloyd stands among the market leaders on South America trades. Major restructuration at A.P. Moller-Maersk The Danish group A.P. Moller-Maersk which owns Maersk Shipping company, will separate its activities in 2 separate divisions, on one hand, Transport & Logistics and on the other side, Energy for its oil-related businesses. The focus will be on generating growth and increasing synergies in a context of falling freight rates on several routes. Furthermore, emphasis will be put on acquisitions, meaning probably in the future, lower orders of new container vessels and the purchase of other existing shipping companies. Amazon fined for several breaches of dangerous goods regulations The online retailer Amazon has been fined by a court in the United Kingdom last month for four counts of causing dangerous goods to be delivered for carriage in an aircraft. There have been several breaches of dangerous goods regulations concerning the transportation of lithium ion batteries and flammable aerosols.
