1 Lao Securities Exchange Lao Stock Market rallied on Monday, rebound to previous Tuesday s index at 1, point to increase by 0.29 percent. Today s trading value reached over 717 million kip with 104,491 shares, equals to rather 2 times bigger than last closed. Because of the largest offering came from the General Corporation, the Lao stocks moved to the upward momentum in a day worth 687 million kip. On the other side, the Foreign investors were the biggest sellers with 92,949 shares valued over 632 million kip. Market Heavyweight EDL-Gen Electrics remained a winning streak on Lao stock trading as huge volumes by 94,491 shares cost considerably almost 643 million. Surprisingly, EDL-Gen s sales were executed within one session only at the closed amid the constant price at LAK 6,800 for 5 days in a row. The BCEL share s price edged up by LAK 200 to reach LAK 7,500, equivalent to earlier Tuesday s closing price, despite the minor trading amount of only 10,000 shares worth 75 million kip. Local News Laos, Korea ink deal on Nam Xam 4 hydropower project Simon Consulting Co., Ltd. of the Republic of Korea plans to invest about US$250 million in the construction of the Nam Xam 4 hydropower project in Xamneua district, Huaphan province. A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed in Vientiane last week by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Bounthavy Sisouphanthong, and Simon Consulting President, Mr Jong Tae Jin. The project will contribute to the development of Huaphan province and will instigate a new real estate project, which will include an amusement park, a theme park and a movie studio. 2 consumption. A feasibility study which will take 18 months is currently underway. Laos has the potential to produce about 30,000MW through hydropower and is now generating about 10 percent of this, or 3,000MW. Lao Airlines announces intention to list on stock exchange Lao Airlines has expressed interest in listing on the Lao Securities Exchange as part of efforts to mobilise investment capital for expansion purposes. The airline's President Dr Somphone Duangdara met last week with Securities Exchange Commission officials in Vientiane where he made an official announcement regarding the company's intention to list on the stock market. Dr Somphone said the state-owned national carrier hopes to obtain a new revenue stream from the stock market so that it can purchase more jet aircraft. This will enable the airline to boost its competitiveness before the Asean Economic Community comes into effect in In 2015, airlines in Asean countries will be able to provide services throughout the region freely, which will present challenges for Lao Airlines unless they have a large fleet of modern jet aircraft. At present, the airline has four twin-jet aircraft while the rest are propeller driven. Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) CEO, Assoc. Prof. Dethphouvang said the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has established a committee that will detail a plan for Lao Airlines to list on the stock market. One of the main challenges for the airline is to make its business operations transparent so that potential shareholders know they have full and accurate information about the company's finances. The airline must also have a good business plan to convince investors that its business will continue to grow, despite the stronger competition that will develop when Laos allows foreign airlines to operate in the domestic market. (Vientiane Times) Global News Asia Stocks Cheer Cyprus's Bailout Deal (CNBC, 10:15) Risk assets across Asia rallied on Monday after Cyprus secured a last-minute deal with international lenders for a 10 billion euro ($13 billion) bailout, narrowly avoiding a collapse in the Cypriot banking system. The Nikkei rallied 1.5 percent, Australia's benchmark S&P ASX 200 crossed the key 5,000 mark for the first time in three sessions and Seoul's Kospi jumped 1.4 percent to rebound from a five-week low. Shanghai shares however, moved off an earlier two-week high. Domestic-focused stocks led the Nikkei higher with retailers leading gains. Fast Retailer added 2.3 percent while Marui Group and Takashimaya jumped over 4 percent. Blue chips helped Seoul's Kospi rebound over 1 percent from Friday's five-week low. Market heavyweight Samsung Electronics jumped 2.4 percent while LG Electronics added over 2 percent.
