2 What exactly sets Credit Suisse Index Funds apart? Index funds pursue a so-called passive investment approach that sees the reference index underlying the respective fund replicated as precisely as possible. This results in the investors capital closely following the development in the underlying index. Credit Suisse Index Funds include various benefits: They have a long-term track record, boast a high volume of fund assets and demonstrate great precision in their index replication. How do our Index Funds differ from Exchange-Traded Funds? Alongside index funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) also replicate a benchmark index. Our index funds offer the following advantages: They track their benchmark indices physically. The price of our index funds is based on the net asset value (NAV) plus a minimal premium or discount (spread) that serves solely to cover the funds transaction costs (protection against dilution). However, ETFs trade on a bid/offer price, with the price range strongly dependent on the trading volume. Broker and stock exchange fees also apply to ETFs. For our index funds governed by Swiss law, there is no stamp duty at all for Swiss investors, and for funds that fall under Luxembourg law, redemptions of shares are exempt (but not subscriptions). In contrast, ETFs are traded on the stock market, so are subject to stamp duty on both purchases and sales.
