You must have heard about the rush at automobile dealers on 31st march 2016.Rumours were in the air about the high discount available for the day cause companies are planning to drop the prices for all the vehicle from the April 1,2017.was it a true? Yes but only half! Discount on vehicle was available because government adopted Bharat Stage IV norms from 01st April, 2017 suspending the Bharat Stage (BS) III norms. Bharat Stage (BS) III norms have been enforces across the country since October Bharat stage emission standards (BSES) are standards instituted by the Government of India to regulate the output of air pollutants from internal combustion engines and spark ignition engines equipments, including motor vehicles. The standards and the timeline for the implementation are set the Central pollution control board. This is established under the ministry of environment & forest and climate change. These standards are parented by European regulation which was first introduced in After that, these norms are keeps on changing by time to time. All the manufacturers have to implement these norms with their vehicles. These norms contain the regulations which help in lowering the pollution levels. Exposure to air pollutions can caused several cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, which is calculated to be cause for almost half a million early death in 2010.In 1991, first emission norms were introduced for petrol and in 1992 for diesel vehicles in India. Recently, Bharat stage (BS) IV norms has been enforced across the country but it was already been placed in major 13 cities of the nation in April 2010.In, 2016, Government of India Announced that they would skip Bharat Stage (BS)-V norms and will adopt Bharat Stage (BS)-IV norms till Standard Reference Date Bharat Stage Euro 2 1 April 2005 II Bharat Stage Euro 3 1 April 2010 III Bharat Stage Euro 4 1 April 2017 IV Bharat Stage Euro 6 April 2020 VI (proposed) Table: Indian Emission Standards (2 and 3 wheelers) Bharat Stage vs. Euro Norms The Bharat Stage norms are constructed to meet the needs and demands according to the environmental conditions of India. The difference between Bharat Stage and euro 4

5 norms are found only when it s about geographical and environmental needs and conditions else emissions standards are same. For instance, Bharat Stage (BS) III is tested between 24 C and 28 C whereas Euro-III is tested at subzero temperature. Another major distinction is the maximum speed at which the test is performed. For, Bharat Stage (BS)-III is tested at 90Km/h whereas in euro norms it is stipulated at 120 km/h keeping the emissions limit at the same for the both. Ashok Leyland says over 10,000 Vehicles impacted by BS-III Ban The Hinduja flagship firm "Ashok Leyland" said they are having 10,664 units of commercial vehicles which are based on BS- III norms. Firm will be impacted by ban on BS-III by supreme court but they have found a way to make this financial hit as minimal as they introduced a technology called "Intelligent exhaust gas re- circulation Technology (iegr) which will be used to upgrade all the vehicles to make them compatible with BS-IV but this will increase the cost of vehicle by 8-10%. society of Indian automobile manufacturers (SIAM), Out of a total units of different vehicles from different product line, 95% were with them not with the dealers. R&D team will start upgrading their engines with specifically developed iegr. Generally, BS-III engines costs around 1.5 lakh rupees but after upgrading it going to cost around 2 lakh rupees. Dasari said BS-IV based engines with iegr will have 10% more fuel efficiency and can be optimized for engines up to 400 horse power. He added, last month when Supreme Court had banned sale and registration of vehicles with the BS-III emission norms industry got saddled with a stock over 8 lakh vehicles worth Rs. 20,000 crore Ashok Leyland According to Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland and president of 5

Infosys cautioned last month that it will be a hard task for them to achieve $20 billion revenue target by the year 2020 if the industry keep on getting hit like this. 7

8 RBI GAINED MORE POWER TO DIRECT BANKS The ordinance failed to gain much confidence towards resolving the drilling Banking sector. Banking sectors is suffering from NPA problem since so long that government keep coming with the ideas to lower it. NPA concept was implemented by Narasimhan committee. Before the introduction of NPA concept, banks adopted the Health Code 1 to Health Code 10 to denote the different category of bad loans. Recently, Government of India empowered Reserve bank of India to issue directions to the banks to initiate insolvency process for the defaulting firms under the bankruptcy code. Government empowers RBI to look into the stressed accounts and provide resolutions to the banks. In the announced ordinance, RBI empowers to form a committee to provide various resolutions to the bank of their stressed accounts. Market Capitalization of total 24 listed public sector banks have fallen to 4.3% since November Government is trying hard to get rid of the NPA bug from its core sector. On 05 th May, Government announced the ordinance but it failed to impress investors as Nifty PSU bank index fell 1.8%, Nifty private bank index fell to 0.4%.
