1 1 TRAIN THE TRAINER 1 Callout and Description REGIONS 3, 5 & 6: Focus on your facilitation skills at Train the Trainer 1 September 4-7, 2018 Are you ready to learn new facilitation skills with other participants who have demonstrated a commitment to using labour education as part of their work as activists? OPSEU s Train the Trainer 1: Focus on Facilitation Skills introduces participants to the theory and practice of activist education used at OPSEU. Its focus is effective facilitation and co-facilitation, with an emphasis on the delivery of OPSEU courses. Participants will expand their methods and skills to: introduce a variety of activities build community and equity among participants take up small group work lead large group discussions address common conflicts and tensions develop action emerging from union education How do Region 3, 5 and 6 members apply? 1. Complete the application package and send it to the Region 3 Peterborough Regional Office at kcharette@opseu.org Region 5 Toronto Regional Office at Victoria Park at R5Educationals@opseu.org Region 6 Sudbury Regional Office at jsviezikas@opseu.org Applications are due on July 13, 2018 by 4:30 p.m. 2. On your questionnaire, you must demonstrate support from a Board member in your region. 3. In the week following the application deadline, the list of applicants from your region will be sent to your Regional Vice-President (RVP) to be reviewed regionally. Participants will be selected for your region as well as back up names, should there be more applicants than spaces available. Selection decisions will be based on the criteria below.
2 2 4. Your Regional Secretary will contact the selected participants and send further program and venue information at that time. Applicant Selection Criteria A demonstrated commitment to union meetings and education that mobilizes and builds solidarity between members A recommendation for this training from an Executive Board Member within the same region. As far as possible, we encourage participation in Train the Trainer programs from OPSEU members who: Can demonstrate interest and involvement in union education and facilitation, or similar work in their community Can identify how they will apply the training (not just in OPSEU regional education, but also in work with locals, sectors, committees and community) Play leadership roles (i.e. stewards, OPSEU committees all these roles require process skills in bringing people together, running meetings, etc.) By applying the above criteria, OPSEU hopes to identify and select the best possible participants for this program activists who can help strengthen local, sectoral and regional education. Each Train the Trainer program tries to ensure fair representation by sector and equityseeking groups such as woman workers, Indigenous workers (Inuit, Métis or First Nations), racialized workers, workers with disabilities, LGBTTIAQQ2S workers, young workers and francophone workers.

9 9 INFORMATION SHEET REGISTRATION Application forms must be signed by two (2) Local Executive Officers and received by the Regional Office no later than 4:00 p.m. July 13, ACCOMMODATION A block of rooms has been reserved at the Westin, Toronto Airport Tel: , and request the OPSEU Train the Trainer Educational. Members are responsible for making their own Accommodation and Payment arrangements. Accommodations should be booked no later than August 4, All unreserved rooms will be released for re-sale after this date. OPSEU Policy states that members are responsible for their own rooms AND paying for same, you are also responsible for any cancellation. Failing cancellation, you are responsible for the room charges. According to Union Policy, any member living within 60 kms of the hotel is not entitled to room accommodation. Any member living outside 60 kms of the hotel is entitled to room accommodation for all nights. Members will be reimbursed for the cost of a single room only as per OPSEU policy. CANCELLATIONS (NEW POLICY) Notification by a member to cancel course attendance should be received by both the local president and the regional office no later than 48 hours before commencement of the regional school (no later than 9:00 A.M. on the Thursday prior to the September 4thm, 2018 start date). When a member does not attend and the Regional office has not been notified 48 hours prior to the school's commencement, the member will be assessed a penalty. Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration. A member cancelling participation must notify the Regional Office and their local president on or before 9:00 a.m. on THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, LOST WAGES: Please note change on application form In order to claim for lost wages, we will require proof from your Employer that you were scheduled to work and the amount of lost wages incurred. OWN TIME IS NOT PAID. Lost wages may be paid for shift workers who are scheduled to work. Shift workers are asked to make every effort to rearrange their schedule to avoid lost wage claims, and to submit proof that their request for a shift change was denied. Depending on demand, individual applicants may be limited to one lost wages claim for a weekend educational per calendar year. The Regional Education Committee will endeavor to distribute lost wages equitably among locals while taking into consideration equity criteria, the educational needs of locals and the region, and special circumstances that may apply. TIME OFF ARRANGEMENTS are to be made by the member. No time off requests will be submitted automatically by OPSEU. OPS Members whose lost time application is approved will have a time off letter issued by OPSEU. EXPENSE FORMS A member will be reimbursed for the actual cost incurred for travel by public transportation. As per the policy of the Union, the most economical means of transportation should be used. Where a member is required to use his/her private vehicle, he/she may claim for such travel at the current rate. The total di stance travelled and destination points are to be indicated on the expense form. Members must arrange their own travel and are encouraged to car pool. Current Kilometre Rates: one (1) OPSEU member travelling alone 0.55/km; two (2) OPSEU members, 0.60/km; three (3) OPSEU members, 0.65/km; four (4) OPSEU members 0.70/km; five (5) OPSEU members 0.75/km. ALL expenses MUST be submitted on proper Expense Claim Forms. MEALS BREAKFAST: Members who stay at the hotel or had to be present for an OPSEU event before 0800 hours (8:00 a.m.) are eligible to claim (13). LUNCH: Members attending the educational are eligible to claim (19) DINNER: Members who stay at the hotel or had to be present for an OPSEU event past 1700 hours (5:00 p.m.) are eligible to claim (29).
