2 Report on Special Compensation For Fiscal Year 2010 The attached Special Compensation Report totals $890,360. Of this total equals $802,825; Bonus for Performance equals $74,285; Bonus for Sign-on $12,750 and Bonus Employee Referral $500. : 10 month faculty members are paid for academic year service. If 10 month faculty members agree to teach during the summer program, they receive compensation above their base salary. Also, 10-month faculty can receive pre-approval from the Dean to work on a summer research project and receive compensation above their base salary. Bonus includes: Referral bonus to staff who helped UMB identify new personnel in hard to fill categories (there is one because it was earned in FY 2009 but paid in FY 2010); Sign-on bonus paid to new personnel in hard to fill positions (there is a length of employment requirement before getting paid); and Performance bonus (indicated in appointment letters). All of these bonuses were earned in FY 2009 but paid in FY The Components of Additional Compensation Report submitted with the Budget Request totaled $25.42M. That included the items listed below and Special Compensation items listed in the attached report: Regular compensation payments to employees who are exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare). These employees are often graduate students and non-resident alien post-doctoral fellows. Accrued leave payouts to employees terminated or separated (e.g. retired, found another position) Payments to employees (UMB faculty/doctors as well as nurses) for week-end and evening "oncall" coverage as well as additional clinical services. Variable compensation amounts under employment contracts for performance, and / or supplemental compensation for additional duties. Those payments for additional duties and Overseas work were excluded. Salary payments for adjunct faculty. Payments for regular faculty teaching over-load, faculty teaching in addition to regular duties, staff teaching in addition to regular duties. Staff awards under Reward and Recognition programs. Those awards that were for Employee of MonthlYear, Regents Awards or Scholarship Recipient were excluded. Retention, recruitment or performance bonuses for major recruits. allowances. These were housing
