3 Describing resilience Resilience is the ability of countries, communides and households to manage change, by maintaining or transforming living standards in the face of shocks or stresses - such as earthquakes, drought or violent conflict - without compromising their long- term prospects ( Defining disaster resilience: A DFID approach paper ) Resilience is the capacity that ensures adverse stressors and shocks do not have long- lasdng adverse development consequences (M. Constas) Important elements Capacity: a set of ex ante arributes linked to outcomes Shocks and stressors: covariate events that affect the final outcomes

12 BRCiS Programming Output 1: RESILIENCE BUILDING: Target groups are equipped with resilience strategies and response plans to cope with minor shocks (30,100 households / 210,700 individuals) Output 2: WASH: Target groups access adequate WASH support that contributes to improved nutridonal status (14,930 households / 104,510 individuals) Output 3: SHELTER: Target groups have improved physical protecdon and communal infrastructure (11,320 households / 79,240 individuals) Output 4: FSL: Target groups have improved producdve livelihoods capacity and increased food access and diversity (30,100 households / 210,700 individuals) Output 5: KNOWLEDGE & LEARNING: Programme stakeholders have increased learning, capacity and knowledge about resilience
