2 Drought Emergency Response Updates - CARE Somalia Key updates for CO Management (CARE Somalia s Internal Document) Date of update: 14 th June, 2017 Name of reporting person: Emergency Team/MHQ 1. Summary of Drought Response activities (07 th June, 2017) CARE continues to up-scale drought response activities building upon the existing emergency projects with a multi-sectoral assistance approach in regions hardest hit by recent drought and internal displacements. The drought response is currently underway in Sanaag, Sool, Awdal, Bari, Banadir and Lower Juba regions where majority of the population are vulnerable pastoralists, agro-pastoralists and internally displaced people. The multi-sectoral approach adopted by CARE s Emergency response program ensures synergy between livelihoods, relief commodities, nutrition, and WASH interventions being directed towards the drought affected population. CARE is also implementing protection activities in Bari region, filling an urgent gap and providing a vital lifeline to women and girls who have survived gender-based violence. This week s main highlight is the completion of 3 rehabilitated shallow wells and one borehole in Sannag region. A total of 11,000 individuals will be benefiting from this support. To address the challenges of widespread of the AWDs outbreak in Burao district, 4 boreholes were chlorinated by CARE to ensure communities consume safe drinking water.
