In summary Every two minutes WorkCover Queensland receives a claim from an injured worker. Queensland workers compensation scheme allows workers to apply for compensation no matter who, or what caused their workplace injury. We have an in-house determination and case management model, which allows us to process claims from end-to-end. We have the second lowest average premium rate in the country. Our return to work rate is 97.8% Our average statutory claim duration is 28 days, which is under our target of 32.5 days. We provide free, quick and easy to use online options.
We cover, we care We listen to our customers and develop strategies based on your feedback. We aim to develop positive working relationships with you.
Industry alignment Governmen t North Queensland Health Industries Health care and social assistance Transport, postal and warehousing Professional, scientific and technical services Information media and telecommunications Other services East South Tourism (accommodation, food, arts and recreation services, amusement parks) Manufacturing (including timber) Rental hiring and real estate service Gambling services West Government All other government departments Education Queensland TAFE Education cleaners Industries Agriculture, forestry and fishing Electricity, gas water and waste Financial and insurance services Mining Public administration and safety Retail trade Wholesale trade Construction Education and training (includes group training) Labour hire Admin and support services

Online services Our online services are free, quick and easy to use. You can access your policy information at a time that suits you. You can also lodge information online and opt to receive your policy information and updates electronically convenient and good for the environment. Employer online declare wages and pay your premium view premium notices produce a Certificate of Currency find key dates for workers compensation performance scorecards useful links.
Understanding your premium Your premium is calculated using a wages multiplied by rate formula, called experience based rating. Your rate is influenced by a number of factors, including: your claims performance the cost of claims on your policy (i.e. lost wages, medical/rehabilitation, lump sum and damages costs) your industry s claims performance an industry with high injury frequency and claims costs will have a higher industry rate (your WIC is part of this)
The definition of a Worker has changed New legislation which changes the definition of a worker for workers compensation purposes was passed in Parliament in June The legislation comes into effect on 1 July 2013 Worker definition aligns with the PAYG test for employees applied under Australian Taxation Office (ATO) laws
The impact of these changes There will be no change for the majority of workers who will continue to be covered for workers compensation. Examples of individuals no longer covered for workers compensation are those who: supply and operate their own plant, such as earthmoving equipment or trucks as part of their contract (e.g. bob cat, back hoe, prime movers, taxi trucks, cement trucks, tow trucks) work mainly / substantially for labour only, quote for the job, provide their tools of trade, rectify defects at their own expense, subcontracts / employs labour have a personal services business determination (PSBD) from the ATO.

Health benefits of work We support AFOEM of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians position statement Realising the health benefits of work. The report states the longer someone is off work (following a workplace injury), the less likely they are to return. If someone is off work for: 20 days the chance of returning is 70% 45 days the chance of returning is 50% 70 days the chance of returning is just 35%. We encourage a stay at, or prompt return to work strategy. This is possible through a suitable duties program or host employment.
What you can do prevention is better than cure keep your workplace safe and prevent injuries let us know about a claim as soon as possible be return to work focused and provide suitable duties focus on what your worker can do, not what they can t work with us to help your worker stay at, or return to work as soon as possible communicate regularly and openly with all parties stay in contact with your worker and check their progress talk to us if you have any concerns or changes to your policy

Overview of the scheme
What the research tells us? Employers are crucial in the recovery and return to work process and early contact as soon as possible after the injury is known to help reduce the risk of prolonged recovery (Franche et al, 2005) The provision of duties, modified when necessary, will facilitate recovery (Franche et al, 2007) In 2011/12, 81% of workers in Queensland who received a RTW plan considered it helpful (RTW Monitor, ).
Better practice in return to work
Rehabilitation Return to work Early intervention Health benefits of work Actively promote RTW Build relationships
