-ANNUAL REPORT- This Credit Union 1s federol ly insured by the Notional Credit Union Administrotion.
BOARD The Board of Directors of MidWest America Federal Credit Union consists of nine volunteers, all members of the Credit Union. Their function is to develop, review, and monitor the policies and practices in relation to the performance of the Credit Union. N. Keith Parrot Darrell Gerig Dennis Headlee Chairman Vice Chairman Treasurer Jeff Klaehn Jim Brenock Jayne Krauskopf Secretary Director Director Larry Minns Emmitt Smith Jim Zehner Director Director Director Board of Directors I 2017 Annual Report
PRESIDENT/CEO'S l~l3l 1 l~1- MidWest America Federal Credit Union has a long history of providing solid financial results for its members and 2017 was no exception. It is my pleasure to provide the members of MidWest the excellent financial results of the previous year. In 2017, our Credit Union achieved new highs in shares, loans, assets, and capital. Total shares were up 2.67% at $469.9M. Loan amounts rose 9.01% to a total of $469.4M. Assets increased 4.72% to end the year at $575M. Our capital ratio grew 1.2% to a total of 13.9%, which represents actual capital dollars of $79.2M. Even with significant increases across the board, we remain determined to be good stewards of our members funds. As a result, we were able to reduce our operating expense ratio from 71.94% to 70.32%. The primary mission of the Credit Union is to obtain member deposits (shares) and prudently loan them to other members. As noted above, our 2017 total deposits were $469.9M and total loans were $469.4M. Responsible lending is the most effective use of member deposits. At year end, our combined charge off and delinquency ratio was well below industry average at.49%. Our sustained consistent results are the combination of many strategies. We look to diversify our mixture of loans and revenue streams. Also, we will market and deliver quality products through multiple channels and maintain excellent service to our members. The combined efforts of our outstanding staff, management, Supervisory Committee, and Board of Directors make this possible. Thank you to our members who allow us to serve their financial needs. We pledge to continue our efforts on their behalf in 2018 and beyond! Greg Mohr President/CEO IN LOVING MEMORY DAWNE. BLEEKE JUNE 21, 1962 ~ NOVEMBER 20, 2017 THANK YOU FOR 28 YEARS OF SERVICE President/CEO's Report I 2077 Annual Report r I / 2'""',,,~ ~ ~ j ~,,,,,.. u,,'~
CHAIRMAN'S.f_1POirf 2017 was a year of growth for your Credit Union with a focus on providing value to the membership through the execution of long-term strategic goals. MidWest America works diligently to provide enhancements to your Credit Union experience. New tools with additional security and convenience are planned for This strategic direction ensures MidWest America will be here for generations to come planning ahead toward a strong financial future. Again this year, MidWest America was named #1 Credit Union by Fort Wayne Newspaper s readership. In addition, we continue to earn the 5-Star Superior rating for financial strength and stability from BauerFinancial. This independent bank and credit union rating and research firm rates banks and federally insured credit unions on a scale of 5-Stars (highest) to 0-Stars (lowest). The ranking is based on the overall financial picture of the institution and a score of 5-Stars indicates that we are one of the strongest financial institutions in the nation. Community is important to us and we remain committed to providing support through local sponsorships and volunteerism. From our sponsorship of local arts with the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre to involvement in our smaller communities (Mattoon s Habitat for Humanity, Danville s Community Shred Day, Scottsville s Grandest Ole Opry, and Hopkinsville s Christmas Parade), MidWest America strives to exemplify our core value of helping the community with #MidWestGivesBack initiatives. Introduced in 2017, the Affinity Visa Debit Card Program allows us to give back in a greater way. Visa pays financial institutions interchange fees for transactions made using their card. MidWest gives a portion of that interchange to our partner organizations with each purchase made using an Affinity card. This is a win-win situation for both the organization and the Credit Union. While partners benefit by earning proceeds, MidWest America has the opportunity to become the financial institution of choice for future members who wish to give back to the community all while doing their everyday banking! There will only be more good news to share as the momentum for this program continues to build. MidWest stays true to its mission of providing competitive, quality services for our members financial success. I would like to salute the Board of Directors and the Supervisory Committee. Their volunteerism is fueled by a passion to provide you with a superior financial cooperative. While I will be stepping down as Chairman of the Board, I am proud to continue working alongside these dedicated individuals as we oversee the management of the Credit Union. I would also like to thank each MidWest employee for another amazing year! Your efforts have made our goals possible. Finally, with sincere appreciation I would like to acknowledge our membership. Our Credit Union exists solely to enhance our member s financial lives and we cannot grow and prosper without your active participation. N. Keith Parrot Chairman Chairman's Report I 2017 Annual Report
SUPERVISORY COMMITTEE'S f~_2pr ftf The Supervisory Committee is responsible for the continual review of all the Credit Union s activities, the assessment of the credibility of the record-keeping, and the protection provided to member s accounts. It is our mission to maintain the membership s trust and confidence by assuring the Credit Union s strength and security. The annual audit of MidWest America Federal Credit Union for 2017 was completed by the firm Clifton Larson Allen LLP, certified public accountants. The audit report did not disclose any material discrepancies and indicated the Credit Union s records were being properly maintained in accordance with federal credit union guidelines. Please continue to report any discrepancies or irregularities in your account transactions to the Supervisory Committee. The volunteer members of the Supervisory Committee, along with our Internal Auditors, Amy Heltzel and Tierra Williams-Dial, pledge to stay alert and respond to your concerns in We wish to thank the membership for their involvement and support throughout the year with MidWest America Federal Credit Union. Respectfully submitted, The Supervisory Committee Regina Cartwright, Chairperson Joseph Celarek Douglas Mills Kenneth Roehrs Douglas Routh Supervisory Committee's Report I 2017 Annual Report r I ~'4''""",,,~ ~ i j "',,,,,.u,,,,.:,,
