2 About KCIA Situated in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of the Indian state of Odisha, KIIT University happens to be one of India s major upcoming Universities, with over students pursuing graduate, post-graduate and doctoral degree programmes across a wide variety of fields - from biotechnology to engineering, management, medicine, law etc. Keeping in perspective the rising demands of students, lawyers and other legal professionals for quality training and understanding on theoretical and practical aspects on International Arbitration, International Commercial Arbitration and other dispute resolution mechanisms, the University decided to establish in 2013 an independent, not-for-profit Centre in the form of KIIT Centre for International Arbitration (KCIA). KCIA was founded for future sustainability of the booming and fast-developing economic market in India which will demand reliable and efficient dispute resolution in various commercial matters and this Centre shall provide the basic background to facilitate understanding on intricate arbitration issues to the future arbitration academicians, counsels, legal advisors, officers, and arbitrators of tomorrow. KCIA has organised International Arbitration Workshop having Mr. Martin Hunter in November, 2013 which was a huge success. Unique Features KCIA is established under the tutelage and guidance of Prof. Martin Hunter, a globally acclaimed expert on International Arbitration, practicing at Essex Court Chambers, London and is the Chief Patron of the Arbitration Centre. KCIA is also the first academic Centre across private law schools in India to launch the unique Comprehensive-Training Programme (C.T.P), with Training Workshops, Annual Lecture Series, Journal Publication, Summer/ Distance Online Courses on International Arbitration laws. The Board of patrons is supported by an international and a national Board of Advisors, comprising respected emerging leaders of the international arbitration community who offer their expertise on current issues and developments. The Centre will provide a single platform to cater to all the academic and practical requirements of tomorrow s Arbitration world in India and beyond.

3 Participation Procedure 1 st KCIA Essay Competition on International Arbitration is open for students pursuing LAW in India. Each participant is allowed to submit only one entry; Joint entries shall not be permitted. There is No registration fee for the competition. To participate in this competition, the students will have to submit the soft copy of registration form (Annexure - 1) along with the essay (soft copy) on or before 25 th October, 2014 by 23:59 HRS at essay2014@kcia.in. The last date for submission of the essay and registration form (Hard copy) is 28 th October However, the submission of the essay will be accepted till two days after the last date of submission has lapsed, with a penalty of 2 marks each day. The essay must contain an Abstract, not exceeding the limit of 200 words, whereby the key issues are mentioned and the foremost conclusions are set out. Apart from the cover page, no part of the essay should contain any form of identification of the participant. Co- authorship is not allowed. Call us for any queries: 1. 4 Submission Guidelines The participants may choose to write on any topic within the ambit of the broader theme of the competition mentioned below. The Submission must not exceed 3000 words (Including footnotes). Any violation of the prescribed word limit will result in a penalty of 1 mark per 20 words. All submissions must be original and bona fide work of the participants. The contestants by entering in the contest agree to indemnify the organizers from and against all claims, suits, and damages based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use. All entries shall be considered to be the property of the KIIT Centre for International Arbitration, which also reserves the right of publication of the same in any book, journal, or in any other manner as it may deem appropriate, without providing any royalty or compensation. The essay should not be submitted for any other competition and/or for publication whatsoever. All the essays should follow the specifications as mentioned in the following pages. The content of the essay should be in Times New Roman. Font size should be 12 for the text and 10 for the footnotes. Line spacing between two lines and a paragraph should be 1.5 for the body and 1 spacing for footnotes. Participants should use Harvard Blue Book 19 th Edition as the uniform footnoting style. The decision of the review board with regards to evaluation of the essay shall be final.

5 Awards 1. Winner: Winner of the competition will receive cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and gift hampers from sponsors. 2. Runners Up: The runners- up of the competition will receive cash prize of Rs. 7,000 and gift hampers from sponsors nd Runners Up: The 2 nd runners- up of the competition will receive cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and gift hampers from sponsors. 4.
