1 ORANGE COUNTY FIRE AUTHORITY- City of Santa Ana Fire Services- Division 6, Battalion 9 David Cavazos, City Manager Angelica Amezcua, OCFA Board of Directors Division Chief Dave Anderson MONTH END REPORT News & Events (In support of City Strategic Plan Goal 1: Community Safety-Strategy 6a) December 9 th A follow up story to the Safe Surrender that took place at Orange County Fire Authority Station 75 in Santa Ana was featured on several media outlets across the states. OCFA Captain Daryll Millot, and firefighters Shawn Stacy, Michael De Leon, and Tyler Green were on duty the night back in March 2015 when the little girl was brought to the station. The follow up story featured the reunion between the Station 75 crew, the adoptive parents and the now 9-month-old girl, Naomi. December 16 th December 18 th Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, OC Board of Supervisors Chairman Todd Spitzer, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, Assistant Chief Mike Schroeder, and OC Public Works Director Shane Silsby participated in a news conference at the county s Emergency Operations Center to unveil a new county-operated website dedicated to helping residents prepare for El Niño. Orange County Fire Authority joined other Orange County fire service agencies as well as ABC 7, and filled a record 31 OCTA buses with toys at the annual Spark of Love Stuff A Bus event held in Anaheim. OCFA stations started collecting toys November 19 th and accepted donations until December 24 th at all fire stations.

3 3 P a g e M O N T H E N D R E P O R T D E C EMB E R Significant Emergency Incidents December 2015 (In support of City Strategic Plan Strategy 6b) Structure Fire- December 9 th Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: This morning at 01:11 AM, OCFA units were dispatched to a garage fire at 422 N Eastwood Ave. Engine 72 arrived in four minutes to find a detached garage with the end units involved in fire. The fire was controlled in 10 minutes and confined to three garages, a vehicle, and contents. Damage is estimated at $60,000 and there were no injuries. Structure Fire- December 11 th Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: Chief Henery At 12:45 a.m., a structure response was dispatched to W. 1st Street in Santa Ana. Engine 75 arrived on scene at 12:48 a.m. with a fire in a 6-plex one-story strip mall and requested a working structure response. Battalion 9 arrived on scene at 12:50 a.m. hours and requested a 2nd alarm. The fire was in a middle unit then spread to the attic and two adjacent businesses. It was reported out at 1:15 a.m.

4 4 P a g e M O N T H E N D R E P O R T D E C EMB E R Structure Fire- December 12 th Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: Chief Gomez At 4:50 p.m. a structure fire response was dispatched to South Bear Street in Santa Ana. Truck 76 arrived on scene and reported a detached garage fully involved with a vehicle inside. The incident was up-graded to a working structure response and placed under control at 6:10 p.m. Ill Patient- December 22 nd Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: Chief Henery At 1:59PM, OCFA units responded to the county federal courthouse at 411 W. 4th Street for an employee who became ill after opening a mailed letter. Paramedics are assessing one patient and hazardous materials crews are working with county, state, and federal officials to identify the contents. Evacuations and street closures are being taken as precautionary measures. Two patients with minor symptoms have been transported to local hospitals. The OCFA hazmat team, OCSD, and Homeland Security worked together to isolate the item and determine if any hazard existed. OCFA have completed their work and turned the scene over to federal officials. Great example of SAPD, OCSD, OCFA, County Health, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Marshals working together.
