Davey Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) Program AACSB Accredited College of Business, Ranked 51 st in the Nation by Bloomberg Business Week 2 Internships Required for Academic Credit (#1 in Nation: Bloomberg Business Week) B.S. Degree in Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) CPCU for Collegiate Studies School Professional Designation & Licensure Program Top 3 RIMS Conference Case Challenge Team Student Engagement Through Beta Lambda Chapter of Iota Sigma Gamma 100% Job Placement Nation s 1 st Student Run (Captive) Insurance Company
Shortage of Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) Programs / Talent The College Board is a not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success & opportunity. A review of their database reveals: Risk Management & Insurance Programs = 82 Finance/Banking Programs = 799 Accounting Programs = 1,935 Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) is the international business fraternity for insurance, risk management & actuarial science students The Presence of a GIS chapter in a University RMI Program is a sign of quality & industry engagement 65 active GIS chapters in North America, including Beta Lambda Chapter at Butler Other Impact of RMI Education System: Middle Market Firms Cannot Afford Risk Managers & Are Largely Ignorant of You & Your Products & Services Beta Lambda Chapter Chartered Well-Rounded Chapter Status 2 Awards Excellent Chapter Status (Top 11 Chapter) 6 Awards, Including Most Improved Chapter
Experiential Learning is Critical to RMI Recruiting & Training Our industry is so broad that students want experiences that expose them to how the industry works and to as many career paths as possible. Two Required Internships Butler Students interview for and complete 2 internships for credit Bloomberg BusinessWeek just named us No. 1 in the country for internships Student Run Captive Insurance Company Captives represent a significant experiential learning opportunity to train millennials for the insurance industry Captives represent a microcosm of the broader industry and demonstrate the entire product lifecycle for insurance, the operation of an insurance company and alternative means of risk transfer and financing Attendance at Industry Events, Conferences & Symposiums In-class analysis and case work utilizing industry data Students graduating from Butler have one of the most advanced educations in the industry and the corresponding experience needed to hit the ground running in advanced / FastTrack positions
At a minimum, a study should develop a business plan that shows potential premiums and losses and addresses some of the tax issues, said Art Koritzinsky, managing director of Marsh L.L.C.'s captive solutions group in Norwalk, Conn. That might cost $15,000. But a full-blown study that the client could use to educate its leadership and put in a file in case the Internal Revenue Service ever asks for the business case will also talk about domiciles, operation issues, perhaps include a multiyear plan for expansion. That might cost another $15,000. 7
Origin of the 1st Student-Run Captive Insurance Company Michael M. Bill, founder of MJ Insurance, and I formulated the concept of a student-run captive at a dinner in 2015 based, in part, on previous experiences I had as a risk manager. Mr. Bill's extensive career, experience & dedication to the industry were key in making this idea a reality. Captives expose students to insurance company operations; the formulation, development & pricing of insurance products; the use of Captives as a critical risk management tool to lower total cost of risk, expand coverage & provide more program control. Our students work with risk managers, brokers, underwriters, loss control engineers, reinsurance; etc. Selected Risks Provide Relatable Context 8
