1 Dear Community Service Participant, Thank you for choosing the Habitat for Humanity ReStores as your service agency. We appreciate you doing your hours at the Habitat ReStore. The Habitat ReStores sell new and used building materials and the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver. Please note that the ReStore is a hectic and fast paced warehouse environment. Volunteers are often asked to jump from project to project as priorities shift throughout the day. Please be flexible and prepared to multitask! Important: We do not accept volunteers who are in trouble for aggression or violent crimes, crimes against minors, sexual offenses, theft, or robbery. Community Service volunteers must be 16 or older and everyone under 18 must have a youth waiver signed by their parents or guardian. Adult and Minor Waiver Forms are contained in this packet. Minor Waiver Forms must be filled out completely. Incomplete Minor Waiver Forms will cause the volunteer to be sent away. Contained in this packet you will find a description of the work you will be doing along with other ReStore specific volunteer information. Guidelines For Community Service Volunteers What To Bring: 1. You must provide our staff with your caseworker s information and your personal contact information on your first day at the ReStore. Court documentation of your offense or a letter from your attorney may be required before hours can be scheduled. 2. Bring the attached time sheet with you and be sure to have your hours signed off on, by ReStore staff, every time you volunteer. You are responsible to make sure your hours are signed off daily and are accurate. If you do not have this time sheet signed by a supervisor each time you work we will not be able to verify that you completed your hours. If your community service program provided you with a time sheet please use both forms, as needed. Your Community Service time sheet can t leave the ReStore until your hours are finished and the paperwork is complete. If you choose to do hours at more than on ReStore, you will need to keep multiple sets of time sheets until your hours are completed. At that time, all the time sheets can be brought to one ReStore to be compiled. Because this can be difficult and time consuming, we encourage volunteers to do their hours at one site. 3. Please bring your own work gloves to the site. Service Agreement: If your program requires a signed service agreement, please make sure you stop by one of the ReStores prior to your first day of work. Staff can sign the agreement. ReStore Locations & Hours: Mon Sat: 9am 7pm, Sun 10am-5pm Wheat Ridge ReStore: W I-70 Frontage Rd N, Wheat Ridge, CO Denver ReStore: 70 Rio Grande Blvd, Denver, CO Littleton ReStore: 7890 W. Quincy Ave, Denver, CO Aurora ReStore: 1640 S. Abilene St. Unit H, Aurora, CO Signing Up For Shifts: Volunteers can work our AM shift from 9-2, or our PM shift from 2-7. You may register to work the full day. You must work our shifts. You must be present at 9am or 2pm when the shift begins. If you have extra hours to make up, but do not want to work the full day, you may sign up for the morning shift and then stay into the afternoon shift. However this must be cleared by staff on an individual basis. Please note that registration is mandatory. You may register online by visiting (Click on ReStore, then Volunteer, then Court Ordered Volunteers). Use the prompts on the website to sign up online at Please cancel your shift(s) online if you find that you can t come in. Three no-show without canceling your workday online will result in your being expelled from the program. Volunteers who are late for a shift will be asked to leave. The shifts you are registered for will be listed on the calendar page, above the individual events. Work ethic: We expect all volunteers to show up to work on time, respect staff members, and do the work that needs to be done. If you are found to be unproductive at the Habitat ReStore, you will not earn any volunteer hours for that day. Volunteers who are not able to work hard and complete tasks will be asked to leave. If you have completed a task and need something to do you are required to seek out staff to be assigned your next task. Code of conduct: We do not permit the use of foul language, drugs, alcohol, or any kind of physical or verbal abuse, including intimidation. If you are suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will be asked to leave and the courts will be notified. If your conduct is inappropriate you will be asked to leave and will not have the opportunity to finish your hours with us. All community service volunteers must abide by our requirements. Physical Requirements: It is not uncommon to lift up to 50 pounds at a time, or to help move couches, large windows, heavy doors, and appliances. If you have any mitigating medical concerns (pregnancy, back problems, etc.), or cannot handle the physical demands described above, please reconsider your community service options.
2 Appropriate Clothing: The ReStore is a warehouse environment and therefore volunteers must dress appropriately. Volunteers must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, backless shoes etc.). Dress is otherwise casual, but please do not wear low cut shirts, very baggy pants that leave underwear exposed, or pants that so long you may trip over them. The ReStores can be dirty and dusty, so chances are you ll leave here less pristine than you came! Electronics: We kindly ask that you do not bring ipods or portable CD players with you. Turn your cell phone off or leave it in your car while you are working. Messages can be checked during breaks. Lunch and Breaks: Volunteers who work the morning shift or evening shift can take one 30 minute break. Volunteers who work all day can take a 10 minute break in the morning, a 30 minute lunch and a 10 minute break in the evening. We have a community kitchen for volunteer use. For their lunch break, volunteers may bring their lunch with them or go out for lunch. However, volunteers must inform a staff member when they are taking their break. Volunteers are asked to take breaks only when it is appropriate to do so (example: during a slow period). Breaks or lunch cannot be taken at the end of a shift. Questions?
