With increasing awareness and acceptance of the role that alternatives can play in client portfolios, questions still abound on the implementation front. In a session devoted to a discussion of market expectations for alternative investments in their various formats, questions to be addressed include: Are the market expectations realistic? What should be the expected performance premium for illiquidity? How does one weigh the validity of broad asset class expectations versus single strategy or single manager expectations? Do these expectations color due diligence evaluations? How are investor expectations for both liquid and illiquid alternatives shaping the portfolio construction process? This panel will explore those differences, focusing in on the due diligence process of researching and selecting alternatives products with special emphasis on the requirements spawned by the proliferation of liquid alternatives. 4 hedge funds, hedge fund of funds, private equity and private real estate assets have played at the wirehouses is being slowly eroded as liquid alternatives continue to gain wirehouse market share.
