3 Mapping the resources to the Adult Financial Capability Framework The aim of this guidance is to help advisers to identify where the financial capability interventions that they make with clients using the Citizens Advice resource library are mapped to the Adult Financial Capability Framework. The Framework itself has been in place for several years, and has been widely adopted in the UK by a variety of organisations including the Money advice Service. Please note that the Adult Financial Capability Framework codes given here are subjective; advisers may feel upon reflection that the codes may not cover the full range of areas covered in their advice and others are preferable. In other cases, more than one code may be considered suitable for an activity. For several activities, no reference to the framework is given, as it may not be suitable for some activities that touch upon broader resilience-building for a client. Full and final discretion belongs to the adviser in all these cases. Trainers are encouraged to feedback to the Financial Skills for Life about training materials or resources. If you have any comments, please contact: financial.skills@citizensadcvice.org.uk 3
4 Contents General guidance 5 resource topics mapped against the Adult Financial Capability Framework: Banking 6 Budgeting 8 Credit 10 Debt 12 Energy and water 13 Insurance 14 Jobs and employment 15 Saving 16 4
5 General guidance The following guidance is meant as an indication of the areas of the adult financial capability framework that are, generally speaking, captured by a particular activity in our suite of financial capability resources. However, they are offered only as guidance and you are not obliged to stick to them exactly. If you feel that other areas were covered during your session with the client, or in fact that certain areas were not covered at all, then you should select the appropriate codes. 5
