1 The Week Ahead March 2019 Plenary session, Strasbourg Brexit/EU summit. MEPs will discuss the latest developments regarding Brexit and other priorities of the March EU spring summit with European Council President Donald Tusk. (Wednesday) Copyright rules for the internet. Parliament will vote on the provisional deal, reached in February, on copyright rules for the internet, that aim to ensure the rights and obligations of copyright law are applied to the internet. (debate and votetuesday) Single use plastics. MEPs are set to endorse the ban on single-use plastic items such as plates, cutlery, straws and cotton buds sticks from The law also sets a 90% collection target for plastic bottles by 2029 and by 2025, recycled material should make up 25% of each plastic bottle, increasing to 30% by 2030 (debate and votewednesday) Switch between summer and winter time. MEPs will vote on the proposal to end the switch between summer and winter time. EU countries can either keep their summer time and adjust clocks for the last time on the last Sunday of March 2021, or keep their standard (winter) time, and change clocks for the last time on the last Sunday of October (debate Monday, votetuesday) Protecting consumers online and offline. Parliament will vote on new rules to better protect consumers whether they buy a product on the internet, in a local store or download music, apps, games or use cloud services online (debate and vote Tuesday). Curbing CO2 emissions from cars. Parliament will vote on plans to reduce greenhousegas emissions from cars and vans by MEPs and EU ministers have agreed on a 37.5% reduction target for new cars, and 31% for new vans by (debate Tuesday, votewednesday) Reform of road transport sector. MEPs will vote on proposals aiming to better tackle illegal practices in the road transport sector, such as use of letterbox companies or operating in national markets beyond existing limits. They would also define for which transport operations posting of workers rules, such as those on minimum wage, should apply and amend drivers rest times. (debate and votewednesday) Drinking water. Parliament will vote on plans to improve consumers trust in drinking tap water, a more environmentally-friendly and cheaper alternative to bottled water, by tightening the maximum limits for specific pollutants. Member states are also encouraged to improve access to water in cities and public places. (debate Wednesday, votethursday) Financial and tax crimes. Plenary is set to adopt a detailed roadmap revamping taxation and tackling financial crimes, calling for, among other things, the set-up of an EU financial police force and an EU anti-money laundering watchdog. The report also flags Belgium, Cyprus, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta and The Netherlands potentially acting like tax havens and calls for an end to golden visa schemes.
