3 SUMMARY General objectives The main objective of the project is to develop and disseminate the guidelines for the organisation of future European Donation Day, elaborated by consultation of experts and considering the guidance of Council of Europe, the initiator of the main event. Strategic relevance and contribution to the public health programme The Council of Europe is organising a European Donation Day on a yearly basis in changing countries of its member states. In 2008, the main partner organised this event on behalf of the Council of Europe in Ljubljana. The main partner develop a model based on how to organise such a European Donation Day and which components to organise based on its own experiences in organising this event in This model is proposed to be modified according to adaptability in different cultural circumstances and being formulated into general guidelines, that can help organising future European Donation Days in European Member States with less developed organ donation awareness. Furthermore, the idea shall be tested, if satellite European Donation Days in parallel to the main event are beneficial for raising awareness on organ donation in the special circumstances of small countries. Methods and means Guidelines will be drafted and tested in 5 European countries. Expected outcomes period The project intents to raise awareness on organ donation among different target groups, considering geographical, cultural and social diversity, and by doing so to help increasing organ availability. The project aims to achieve two major outcomes: - to develop guidelines for the future organisation of European Donation Days, specifically for the use in small European Member States with less developed rates of organ donation - to increase the awareness on the need of organ transplantation among the general public to increase the pool of available organs.
