The CENTRAL EUROPE area today Territorial structure CENTRAL EUROPE includes nine Member States (Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, East Germany, Hungary, North Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia) Over 1 million square kilometers, home of over one quarter of Europe s citizens (142+ million in 2011) 77 units of NUTS 2 level regions 8 cities exceeding one million inhabitants

5 2. CENTRAL EUROPE : lessons learned The CE Programme in a nutshell CENTRAL EUROPE is one of the 13 transnational programmes of the ETC objective M ERDF are allocated to 124 projects involving more than partners, out of which 18 % of them are private and (at least) 5 % of them are SMEs

6 3. Transnational cooperation : lesson learned Location of partners Partners are located in 72 out of the 74 NUTS 2 regions and in 211 out of 444 NUTS 3 areas

10 3. CENTRAL EUROPE 2020 Perspectives General principles for preparing the CE2020 Programme 1. Solid knowledge of: Common challenges and shared needs across the whole Programme area; Existing potentials for a smart, sustainable and inclusive growth of the central European regions. 2. Strong involvement of relevant stakeholders: Advisory role in shaping the Programme strategy (setting of objectives) Provision of specific inputs on types of actions, beneficiaries, target groups Building of ownership on the Programme 3. Building on experiences and lessons learned of the period: Result-oriented approach of projects, striving long-term impacts Reduction of administrative burden for an effective delivery

CENTRAL EUROPE 2020 Perspectives The CE 2020 Programme in a nutshell Geographical scope has been enlarged: from 8 to 9 Member States Same Managing Authority of the CE Programme (City of Vienna) Budget still unknown (Autumn 2013) Organised into 4 Priority Axes, corresponding to 4 out of the 11 pre-defined Thematic Objectives of the ERDF : Thematic objective 1 Strengthening research, technological development and innovation Thematic objective 4 Supporting the shift towards a lowcarbon economy in all sectors Thematic objective 6 Protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency Thematic objective 7 Promoting sustainable transport and removing bottlenecks in key network infrastructures Priority axis 1 Cooperating on innovation to make CENTRAL EUROPE more competitive Priority axis 2 Cooperating on low carbon strategies in CENTRAL EUROPE Priority axis 3 Cooperating on natural and cultural resources for sustainable growth in CENTRAL EUROPE Priority axis 4 Cooperating on transport to better connect CENTRAL EUROPE
