7 3. Debt Products for Agriculture Variations occur based on the following: Nature of the collateral Fixed asset (Influenced by productive life). Loan to Asset value is limited to 50 to 70% (May be higher based on strength of business plan) Commodity with defined and fixed market (Fixed or hedged prices). Finance against 65% of the expected value crop value. The average long term crop yield is insurance against and its price is fixed or hedged on the futures exchange with a minimum price. Exploring ways to implement this among the large agro industries, where the agro industry provides the minimum price. Long term leases with guaranteed offtake and pricing mechanism. 14 9. Recommendation on the Hatchery Start-up Fund both the working capital and long term debt with monthly repayments. Cash flow in deficit positions for Year 1 and 2 mainly due to startup nature of operations. Displays a positive trend i.e. Production cost ratio on the decline. Overall demand for poultry was growing on the local market. Demand for poultry remains strong and prices expected to remain stable with upward potential. 16 11. Seasonal Income Assessment... Overall assessment remains the same. Attention given to affordability of enterprise to service compound interest payment once a year. Debt rules/conveyances set in line with the assessment. 16 Barclays Loans for Farmers and SMEs
17 12. Valuation of the Asset... Minimise loss given default, emphasis is placed on managing the value and quality of assets financed or taken on as security (in South Africa). Assets valued by accredited and professional valuers. Absa provides and regularly updates a set of guidelines for farm valuations. Guidelines are region or area specific and updated at least once a year. Update is through a panel review process that consists of agricultural specialists, farmers, agribusinesses, valuers, sales agents, etc. Absa s team of AgriSpecialists will assess farm valuations submitted by the valuers to ensure guidelines are adhered to. 17 Barclays Loans for Farmers and SMEs
18 13. Business Support... Once a loan account is in arrears for more than 90 days: Handed over to business support. Detailed assessment is done to determine viability and alternative measures to ease pressure on the business. AgriSpecialist involved to provide agricultural background. Regular contact with the client. Upon improvement the management of the relationship is returned to the sales team.
