BRIEF NOTE ON FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT (FDI) FROM CYPRUS An analysis of the foreign direct investment (FDI) equity, received in India, since 2000, shows that the FDI have risen substantially. 2. CUMULATIVE FDI EQUITY INFLOWS received during January 2000- December 2010 were Rs. 568,246.20 crores (US$ 127.00 billion). Out of this, FDI from Cyprus (which ranks 7 th ) are Rs. 20,679.10 crores (i.e. US$ 4.53 billion), which represents 3.57% of the cumulative received (this amount does not include received prior to January 2000, as such data prior to that date was not centrally maintained by the ). Further, project, country & sector specific FDI equity data, in respect of Cyprus, is available only from January 2000 onwards. 3. SECTOR-WISE DISTRIBUTION OF FDI INFLOWS: On perusal of the sector-wise distribution of FDI equity received from Cyprus, from 01.01.2000 to 31.12.2010, it is seen that the highest FDI equity have been in the Housing & real estate, which accounts for over 28% of FDI from Cyprus. Services sector, with about 17%, is in the second place and Construction activities, with over 16%, is in the third place. 2
