INSPIRE BUILD RELATIONSHIPS, RECOGNIZE SUCCESS While Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are the most oversold to officer in the C-Suite, their success often depends upon business partners, innovators and strategic technology providers to help them achieve ambitious corporate technology objectives. But reaching a CIO can seem impossible. How can you break through the noise? InspireCIO programs bring together CIOs and their invited business partners to inspire, recognize and connect technology leaders facing similar problems. The CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards program, developed by CIOs over the past 20 years, is refreshingly different in the crowded CIO event marketplace and creates multiple opportunities to form relationships that one-time transactional networking events simply can t provide. Sponsors of the Awards program understand the value of aligning themselves with the interests of CIOs through a series of relational events, each designed to honor and recognize CIOs at the top of their game. Strategic-minded executives are patient and understand relationship-building takes time but can often last a lifetime. These executives look for opportunities to celebrate the success of others and understand the value of surrounding themselves with similar, successful and ambitious leaders. Recognizing successful CIOs opens the door to deeper relationships with current and former clients, prospects and other prominent technology leaders in the community. HISTORY OF THE ORBIE AWARDS CIOs are the architects of the Digital Age. They lead digital transformation and innovation, yet are often unrecognized and under-appreciated for the difficulty of driving change while maintaining secure and available legacy systems. Perfection seems to be expected but impossible to achieve. Since 1998, over 500 CIOs have been honored as finalists, and over 170 CIO of the Year winners have received the prestigious ORBIE Award. The ORBIE honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership and have created significant lasting value as a result of their successful technology initiatives. One unique aspect of this program is all sponsors must be invited by a CIO to participate. CIOs invite their strategic business partners who have earned their trust and served with excellence. Likewise, sponsors nominate their best CIO clients to highlight success stories and business value created. All CIO of the Year nominees & finalists are honored at a series of executive events (detailed on p. 3) leading up to the ORBIE Awards. Throughout the entire process, CIOs and sponsors attend these events, providing multiple opportunities to develop meaningful relationships. 2
AWARDS EVENTS AWARDS KICKOFF Current sponsors, prior-year sponsors, CIO members and CIO guests are invited to the Awards Kickoff, hosted by the CIO Advisory Board. This event showcases the value of nominating top CIOs, provides insight into the nomination process and helps your team identify the CIOs to nominate. NOMINEE RECEPTION All CIOs nominated for the CIO of the Year Awards are invited to attend the Nominee Reception. This executive event features an inspirational, leadership-oriented program delivered by a high-profile technology executive and recognizes all CIO nominees. Media coverage is provided by the local business journal. Attendance is limited to CIO nominees, CIO members, CIO guests and select sponsor executives. The number of CIOs attending this program outnumbers the sponsor executives, which is a testament to the credibility of how the CIO of the Year Awards convenes CIOs. FINALIST RECEPTION The Finalist Reception, held 4-6 weeks after the Nominee Reception, honors CIO finalists in categories such as Nonprofit/Public Sector, Corporate, Enterprise and Global. By tradition, prior CIO of the Year winners introduce the incoming CIO of the Year finalists. Attendance is limited to CIO finalists, CIO members, CIO guests and select sponsor executives. EXECUTIVE DINNER The most exclusive event in the CIO of the Year program is the Executive Dinner. This multi-course dinner, with a chef-introduced menu and sommelier-selected wine pairings, is led by CIO finalists and attended by CIO members and select sponsor executives. All Gold and Silver level sponsor executives are personally introduced by a CIO, who has the opportunity to share personal anecdotes about their most trusted business partners in front of 20-30 CIO peers and colleagues. The collegial format of this dinner is often the most highly-rated event of the Awards program by both CIOs and sponsor executives. CIO OF THE YEAR ORBIE AWARDS The ORBIE Awards is a professionally produced ceremony honoring the CIO finalists and winners. The program features a high-profile executive keynote along with video introductions of the finalists and select sponsors. Sponsor executives are invited to attend an exclusive pre-event VIP reception for CIO finalists and a post-event Q&A featuring the keynote and CIO winners. Hundreds of attendees engage in networking activities as they visit the sponsor display tables both before and after the program. Media coverage is provided by the local business journal. 3

INSPIRECIO LEADERSHIP NETWORK The Inspire CIO Leadership Network (InspireCIO) is the preeminent national professional association for chief information officers. Our membership is comprised exclusively of CIOs (or equivalent executive roles) from public and private companies, government, education, healthcare and nonprofit organizations. Bringing together CIOs across industries and organization types helps CIOs become better leaders and solve problems faster through strategic relationships and idea exchange. Local, CIO-led chapters are the nucleus of InspireCIO. CIO Advisory Board members and chapter officers determine the association s annual program agenda, recruit new members and present an annual CIO of the Year Awards program. Member programs are non-commercial and exclusive to CIO members, Underwriters and qualified prospects. All member programs are facilitated by an Executive Director and the InspireCIO professional staff. Since inception in 2003, our mission has been to inspire CIOs to achieve their leadership potential. We have accomplished this through building strong, member-centric, local professional communities of chief information officers. These InspireCIO chapters help CIOs connect with other CIOs facing similar challenges. Working together, sharing ideas & best practices and recognizing success InspireCIO members reduce uncertainty, collaborate and learn from each other. SUPPORT A LOCAL INSPIRECIO CHAPTER AS AN UNDERWRITER InspireCIO programs are made possible through the corporate support of invitation-only, executive level, strategic sponsors known as Underwriters. Senior executives representing these organizations serve on the CIO Advisory Board and attend quarterly CIO-led, non-commercial chapter leadership events and a series of annual Awards programs. Underwriter executives understand the strategic value of supporting and building relationships with CIO members and fellow Underwriter executives, and are regarded as peers within the technology community.
