Ldge yur applicatin in persn, by email r pst t: Master f Legal Practice Prgram Building 5, Fellws Rad Australian Natinal University ACTON ACT 2601 E: lpe.law@anu.edu.au P: 02 6125 4463 CRITERIA FOR RRR PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE Terms: Student - means an enrlled ANU MLP student RRR placement - means a RRR legal practice experience placement under the scheme RRR Placement Assistance - means RRR placement assistance prvided by the Legal Wrkshp The ANU Legal Wrkshp has established an assistance fund t prvide financial assistance fr MLP students undertaking qualifying RRR placement. Until the 31 Octber 2010 the scheme was limited t legal practice experience placements with a Cmmunity Legal Centre in a reginal, rural r remte area. Frm the 1 Nvember 2010 the scheme is brader and applies mre generally as set ut belw. RRR Placement Assistance and payment arrangements The maximum amunt f RRR Placement Assistance is $1,000 per student. Payment is made by electrnic transfer int the student s nminated accunt. RRR placement types f legal practices All legal practices are included that is: private and gvernment: private law firms; in-huse legal practices; legal practices in gvernment r statutry agencies including the DPP, Department f Cmmunity Services (DCS) etc. nn-prfit: Legal Aid Cmmissins; Cmmunity Legal Centres; Abriginal and Trres Strait Islander Legal Services; Family Vilence Preventin Legal Services; Native Title Representative Bdies; pr-bn legal service initiatives. RRR placement lcatins the legal practice experience placement lcatin must be in a RRR area f Australia. where the LPE placement invlves fly-in-fly-ut (r similar) frm an excluded lcatin t an RRR lcatin, the placement may be included if: the predminant fcus f the legal practice experience wrk is delivery f legal services in ne r mre RRR areas, and a substantial part f the placement will be undertaken in ne r mre f thse RRR areas. Length f placement the prpsed placement must be at least 20 days and, unless there are special circumstances, the placement must be full time i.e. 5 days a week, during usual business hurs. written cnfirmatin f the placement frm the RRR placement site must be submitted with the cmpleted RRR Placement Assistance Applicatin an email frm the placement site is sufficient. Distance frm hme, persnal circumstances and purpses the distance t the RRR placement must be at least 100km frm the student s usual residence. the student must demnstrate: that they are likely t incur substantial additinal csts in establishing r undertaking the placement cmpared t placement clse t the student s usual residence, that they wuld be unable t undertake the RRR placement withut the requested financial assistance, and hw the pprtunity t undertake the RRR placement may cntribute twards addressing the shrtage f lawyers in RRR Australia.
