Candidates for Election of Council Members for 2015 Sai-Cheong Foong MEc FIAA FSA CERA Group Chief Actuary AIA Group Limited 1 Mr. Sai Cheong Foong is the Group Chief Actuary of AIA Group Limited. He is responsible for overseeing AIA's actuarial activities, including product pricing, reinsurance management, actuarial reserving, embedded value and external actuarial disclosures, as well as statutory accountabilities in his position as AIA's Appointed Actuary. He has more than 20 years of international experience in life insurance practices and has held various actuarial and management positions in Kuala Lumpur, New York and now Hong Kong. Mr. Foong is passionate about promoting the interest of the actuarial profession. When he was based in Kuala Lumpur, he was an active member of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia, serving as Treasurer and Vice President at different times. After settling down in Hong Kong, he has been active in the activities of ASHK, serving as a Council Member since 2006 including as the President in 2009, a very challenging time for the financial services industry in Hong Kong. Mr. Foong is a fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, as well as a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary. He received a master s degree in economics from Macquarie University in Australia in 1993.

Simon Lam FSA CFA FRM FLMI FHLC Assistant General Manager and Chief Actuary Munich Re Hong Kong Branch 2 Simon Lam is Assistant General Manager and Chief Actuary of Munich Re Hong Kong Branch, responsible for marketing, product development and pricing functions. Simon has over 14 years of experience in life insurance industry and he has been managing actuarial operations in both Hong Kong and Malaysia as Head of Actuarial and Chief Actuary respectively. He has also been an honorary lecturer in The University of Hong Kong s Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science since 2008, and was a guest lecturer and industrial advisor in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman from 2009 to 2010 in Malaysia. Besides, he is a member of Actuarial Working Group in The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers. He received a Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Science) degree from the University of Hong Kong and is studying Executive Master of Business Administration in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of Society of Actuaries, Charter Financial Analyst, Financial Risk Manager, Fellow of Life and Management Institute and Fellow of Life and Health Claim. Simon is an active participant in the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (ASHK). He has been the chairperson of ASHK s Membership and Publications Committee since 2013, chairperson of ASHK s Benefit Illustration Working Group from 2011 to 2014 and committee member of ASHK s Life Insurance Committee since 2011. He has served as ASHK s council member since 2013. During the past few years, Simon has achieved the following: 1) Finalized new benefit illustration guideline for ILAS in 2013. 2) Revamped newsletter to strengthen hot topics including a) Career Advice from Recruitment Consultants, b) Market Update on IFRS 4 Exposure Draft, Health Protection Scheme, Asia Countries Development and the coming Hong Kong RBC Regime. He attracted numerous members to share their expertise in ASHK newsletters to encourage knowledge exchange among Hong Kong actuaries. 3) Conducted membership survey to collect member s feedback to further improve membership service. His team will soon communicate with our members the results of the survey. 4) Strengthened member communication including member s circulation and recruitment news. 5) Organized several evening sharing sessions including the topics regarding Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) and Predictive Modeling. His Committee is planning for a business soft skill workshop in 2015. 6) Served for ASHK s Risk-based Capital Working Group. Simon will be honoured to continue serving ASHK as a council member and to receive your vote.

Stuart H. Leckie OBE JP FIA FSA Chairman Stirling Finance Limited 3 Stuart Leckie has been based in Hong Kong since 1979 and advises on investments and pensions in Asia. He is the author of books titled Pension Funds in China and Investment Funds in China. He is the Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association, and acts as a trustee of a number of retirement schemes. Mr. Leckie worked in life insurance in the UK before moving to Hong Kong in 1979. He served as the Chairman of Watson Wyatt in Asia - Pacific and as Chairman of Fidelity Investments, Asia-Pacific. He has advised the Chinese Government on pensions reform. He is also significantly involved in the development of stock market indices in Asia. Mr. Leckie was the President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong (1981 and 1999) and was the first Chairman of the International Actuarial Association s China Committee. He advised the Hong Kong Government on the establishment of the Mandatory Provident Fund. Additionally, he has served on various committees in Hong Kong s Securities and Futures Commission, and was a Director of Exchange Fund Investment Limited, which launched the highly successful Tracker Fund. Mr. Leckie studied Pure Mathematics at the University of Glasgow then qualified as an Actuary in the United Kingdom in 1972. Uniquely he has worked in the fields of life insurance, pensions and investments. In addition he has frequently represented ASHK at the International Actuarial Association meetings.

Kevin Lee FIA Chief Actuary Hong Kong Actuarial AXA China Region Insurance Company Limited AXA General Insurance Hong Kong Limited 4 Kevin has been Chief Actuary of AXA s Hong Kong Business since 2013, responsible for both Life and General Insurance Business. Kevin joined the actuarial profession in the UK over 20 years ago and have been in Hong Kong for 19 years. In addition to actuarial, Kevin has served management and leadership roles in a wide range of functions, including Operations, Marketing and Distribution. Kevin is an active participant in the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. He served as council member and Chairperson of the Professional Matters Committee from 2003 to 2006. During those 4 years, the group has introduced the due process for approving professional standards and guidance notes, the media guide and refined the disciplinary procedures. He has been a member of the Statutory Path Working Group since 2006 and was a member of the Membership and Publications Committee from 2010 to 2012. Kevin is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK and holds a mathematics degree from the University of Warwick. Kevin will be honoured to serve the ASHK as a council member again if elected. In particular to continue to help gain statutory recognition of ASHK in Hong Kong.

Andrew Ng PhD FSA Associate Professor of Practice in Actuarial Science School of Business The Chinese University of Hong Kong 5 Andrew Ng, a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, is Associate Professor of Practice in Actuarial Science and Programme Director of the BBA programme in Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He received his bachelor s and master s degree from the University of Hong Kong and doctorate from the University of Iowa. Andrew has more than 10 years of experience in actuarial science education. He teaches a broad range of undergraduate actuarial science courses and post-graduate quantitative finance courses, including life contingencies, stochastic modeling, derivatives, credit modeling and quantitative risk management. In 2011, he was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award from the School of Business of CUHK. In 2012, he was awarded the Vice-Chancellor s Exemplary Teaching Award from the CUHK. He is also a co-author of Exam MLC manual published by Actex publications. Andrew is an active researcher. He has published extensively in a variety of actuarial science and probability journals including North American Actuarial Journal, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance, and Stochastic Models. He regularly presents in academic actuarial conferences. During the past years Andrew has served as member of the ASHK Education Committee and Interest Rate Working Group. He has also served as member of Exam Committee and Syllabus Committee of Exam MFE in the Society of Actuaries.

Louis Ng PhD FSA FCIA CFA Lecturer Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science The University of Hong Kong 6 Louis Ng is Lecturer at Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science in The University of Hong Kong. Louis is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Louis had worked in both the insurance and pension industries for more than 20 years covering life insurance management, pension and investment consulting. Louis then moved to the educational field and about eight years ago he took up his current role in The University of Hong Kong. This role involves a mixture of teaching actuarial science subjects to students and liaison with the various industries served by the actuarial profession. Louis is active in the actuarial profession and is Chairman of the Professional Development Committee of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. Louis is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. During the last year as the Chairman of the Professional Committee, he has achieved the following: Invigilated examinations for the Chinese Association of Actuaries Participated in discussions with SOA on educational matters Provided facilities for university students to get actuarial career information by arranging seminars at both HKU and CUHK Louis would be honoured to receive your vote.

Jeremy Porter MA FIA Group Chief Actuary Group Insurance HSBC Bank PLC 7 Jeremy Porter is Group Chief Actuary for HSBC Insurance, based in Hong Kong. Jeremy is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK. Jeremy has worked in the insurance industry for 24 years. Through this time he has been involved in a variety of projects and responsibilities throughout Asia, as well as in the UK and continental Europe. He has also been a regular speaker at actuarial conferences. Jeremy joined HSBC Insurance in Hong Kong as Chief Actuary in 2007, became CFO and Chief Actuary in March 2009, Regional Insurance CRO in late 2009 and Group Chief Actuary in November 2012. Before joining HSBC, Jeremy worked in the actuarial consulting industry for 17 years, based in London, Paris and Hong Kong. His key areas of experience cover Risk Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, Market Consistent Valuations, Economic Capital and Financial Reporting. Jeremy s recent involvement in the actuarial profession and the insurance industry include: Co-Chairman of the ASHK Life Committee Member of the ASHK Task Force on HK RBC Framework Member of the ASHK Reserve Working Group Member of the Insurance Advisory Committee of the HKSAR

Ka-Man Wong FSA Regional Head, Life Risk Management Regional Actuarial Solutions AXA Asia 8 Ka-Man Wong is Regional Head, Life Risk Management of AXA Asia, with responsibility to oversee life insurance risks of the company over the region, based in Hong Kong. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 2004 and holds a Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Science) degree from the University of Hong Kong. Prior to the current role, Ka Man was Chief Risk Officer of Sun Life Hong Kong, leading the ERM function across insurance, investments and operational risks. Before that she was a Principal Consulting Actuary of Towers Watson and before worked in Manulife Financial regional. Her expertise include risk management, product strategy and business planning, value and quality proposition, merger & acquisition, and High Court sanctioned insurance portfolio transfers. Ka Man is an active participant in the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. She served on the Council from 2009 to 2012 inclusive, during which time she introduced and chaired the Investment & Risk Management Committee in view of the evolving importance of risk roles by actuaries in the industry. Since 2008 till now she remains serving on the Life Insurance Committee which produced a number of guidance notes around topics that concern local reserving, illustrations and solvency. She is also currently the vice-chair of China Region Committee of the Society of Actuaries to promote the profession in the region and facilitate discussion of common issues. During the past few years, Ka Man has achieved the following: Represented ASHK to lead the 2012 IAA Colloquium in Hong Kong Organized local and regional conferences on Risk Management in HK/Macau Working group of the Risk-based Capital framework of ASHK Working group of the AGN3 supplementary guidance on Chapter 41E of ASHK Conducted risk and capital management surveys for the Hong Kong industry Conducted Associate Professionalism Courses for the Society of Actuaries Promoted the actuarial profession in education expos & career events Ka Man looks forward to serving the actuarial profession in Hong Kong, in particular fostering closer involvement of ASHK to assist companies with upcoming regulatory implications, and providing more colloquium opportunities to assist members in sharing ideas and industry knowledge through networking platforms.
