As part of measures to reduce bad and unsustainable fisheries practices, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has launched a booklet on Fisheries Regulations LI 1968 in some Ghanaian languages. The legislation, translated into Ga, Fanti, and Ewe, was launched in Tema by Madam Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. 2. As part of efforts to strengthen the management of the fisheries sector in Ghana, the Fisheries Commission, with support from the West Africa Regional Fisheries Program, has surveyed Ghana s coastal waters to assess the fish stocks. The survey which covered the fisheries re-sources in both the shallow and deep marine waters was conducted by R/V Fridtjof Nansen in April 2016. 3. The MOFAD website has been upgraded. 4. The Software for the Fisheries Database has been upgraded and data will be real-time 5. The first marine ecosystem survey in nine years has been carried out. Component 2 6. Two dedicated courts have been supported for fisheries cases. 7. Required refresher training has been supported for one Chief State Attorney and one High Court Judge as training of trainers 8. Training in Alternative Dispute Resolution has been supported to expedite processing of fisheries infractions. 9. Various relevant training have been conducted for FEU personnel. 10. Additional offices are being refurbished and upgraded to extend country presence of FEU. 11. FEU surveillance is being funded and various community sensitization have been carried out. 12. Tracking Software for monitoring cases and fines is being procured to enhance accountability 13. Decline in infractions have been recorded. 14. MCS personnel are being trained to carry out vessels sanitation inspection. 15. 40 MCS and contract personnel have been trained in Observer activities. Component 3: 16. Required Fish Health Protocols have been developed and deployed. 17. Fish Health laboratories are being constructed and existing ones being refurbished and upgraded. Fish Health monitoring equipment, test kits and supplies are being funded. 18. Improved fish processing technologies has been identified and selected for adoption. Initial training of fish processors representatives have been conducted. 19. Training stations are being supported to provide the relevant training to fish processors 20. NAFPTA has been established and NAFPTA office is being refurbished and equipped. Various relevant training is being supported for NAFAG and NAFPTA. Component 4: 21. The West Africa Regional Fisheries Program (WARFP) has supported the training of 60 fisheries officers from Fisheries Commission including Regional Directors and Zonal Officers in various aspects of Nile tilapia farming in July, 2016. Among the topics discussed include cage construction, tilapia production, growth monitoring in cages, feed management in cages, fish nutrient requirements, fish feed formulation and Preparation, feeding of fingerlings, sorting of breeders in cages, water quality management and harvesting strategies.
