qualifying life events What is a qualifying life event? Open Enrollment selections are generally locked for the plan year, but certain exceptions called Qualifying Life Events (QLEs) can grant you a special enrollment period in which to make midyear changes. how to make midyear QLE changes 1. On your Employee Navigator homepage, select the second box from the left, labeled Benefits. 2. Select the type of change you want to make. You can add new coverage, edit existing elections, or drop coverage. 3. Select your reason for making the change from a list of the most common Qualifying Life Events. disability income don t get detoured by disability Thomasville City Schools provides disability income plans to keep you on the road to retirement by ensuring that you and your family can count on an income if you get hurt or sick and are unable to work. Retirement 67 waiting period If you get sick or hurt and can t work, where will the money come from? Your waiting period is the time you ll be without income until disability benefits begin. short term disability After a waiting period of 14 days, Voluntary Short Term Disability begins paying you 60% of your income. These payments will last up to 150 days. long term disability On the 151st day, Long Term Disability begins paying you 60% of your income, and lasts until retirement (age 65 or 67) if necessary. *This benefit is paid for 100% by Thomasville City Schools. 20
disability income Your Long Term Disability policy is paid for entirely by Thomasville City Schools. Supplement this core benefit with Voluntary Short Term Disability insurance. tax savings strategies Your Flexible Spending Account is currently managed by WageWorks. You can access your accounts online 24/7 at www.wageworks.com. Subject to change. HOW IT WORKS The Healthcare Reimbursement Flexible Spending Account allows employees to pay for certain IRS-approved medical care expenses not covered by their insurance plan with pre-tax dollars. Some examples include: Deductibles, coinsurance, prescription copays, and hearing services, including hearing aids and batteries Vision services, including contact lenses, contact lens solution, eye examinations and eyeglasses Dental services including Orthodontia Maximum $2,500 per year may be pre-taxed. Those dollars avoid Federal and State income taxes. Healthcare Reimbursement FSA 21% There is a $5 per month cost for this plan. HOW IT WORKS Dependent Care FSA The Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account allows employees to use pre-tax dollars for qualified dependent care such as caring for children under age 13, or for elders. The annual maximum amount you may contribute is $5,000 (or $2,500 if married and filing separately). Those dollars avoid Federal and State income taxes.
